Frenchies or French lovers

Could you answer me a question, I thought you couldn't change
the engines over there, so how come, to me and my GCSE grade F
French look likes it's been converted to a Peugeot Diesel and
Registered in France? I didn't think that could happen?

not a frenchie, but i always understood you couldn't convert a
petrol to a diesel or vice versa, but changing a diesel for a
diesel was do-able?

Bonjour,
There is a long and a short answer to that.
Short : the logbook says 4-Cyl. diesel and the Peugeot engine is
also a 4-Cyl diesel so he (usu. a "He") doesn' t care.
Long : The logbook says "REG" or "MOD" and has gone through
theDRIRE procedure.
Officially, nothing is possible but I have a Petrol Series with
a diesel engine and as such on the CoC and Logbook :smilewide:

The rule only came in a few years ago, Stuey (not sure when),
and they didn't demand conversions already actioned within
France be reversed. So it could be that AP was done before the
regs.
That said, the rule now is that an engine change should be as
was originally put in, according to build and VIN, if they check
that. Yet there's no obligation upon the tester man to look
under your bonnet, unless your VIN plate is there...equals many
get by it on that loophole.
Then there's the sympathetic tester who doesn't care much about
stuff which may stop him taking his 2-hour lunch-break when it's
due; the sensible kind of person who let's stuff slide if it's
well-executed and is no danger to the public.
My 2B is down as a 4-cyl 2.25 diesel, and when it's been
smartened-up, a 4-cyl diesel it will be. But unless they bring
in a rule whereby the head is taken off and cylinder capacity
worked out from BDC to TDC x 4, they'll be none-the-wiser and
not actually that interested that the motor I'll be planting in
there is a 3.3L Perkins 4.203...not an original build option, as
far as I know.
The thing is, Stuey, there's always a way. But I look at in in
that you can be either criminal and dangerous with it, or simply
a little carefully rule-bending and safe with it. Absolutely on
the line usually costs you a great deal and ultimately penalizes
you.

Thanks guys for the replies, that has answered my curiosity so
far :thumbs: That has quashed the idea that the Lightweight
will never get registered over there and pass a CT :smilewide:
