Sticky brake

I have a n/s front brake that goes tight every time I do up the
retaining screw in the drum. If I dont do up the screw the drum
runs freely but as soon as its done up it goes tight. I cannot
adjust brake till I get over this initial problem. ???

Make sure the face of the hub and the matching inside face of
the drum are clean and bare metal. If there is any paint or
rust/dirt/crap on there then the drum won't sit true. Also, if
it's a later style drum with just one screw then wind some wheel
nuts on tight and see if it spins, as the screw might be be
pulling it out of line. If thats the case, then you'll
probably find that when the wheel is on and tight it sorts
itself out.

It's also good form to let folk know what the problem turned out
to be, rather than just 'Sorted' :-?

Sorry for the short reply, cannot exactly narrow down the final
issue as while the drum was off I ground the edge off the drum
and took the edges lightly off the shoes. Everything got a full
clean and polish and went back on very freely. Thanks for the
help
