NIAB - Underfinched 2.25
By: NUGGETT Date: April 13, 2013, 1:27 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Sooooo; this is it; bog standard green land rover carrying a
2.25d limp. ( no picture cos you all know what a green one
looks like) . DBG with limestone hard top and stupid arsed tyres
on a HD rim.
After I underfinched the 2.25d 16 months ago ........
I had a brillliant idea to fit a 2.5 n/a for an easylife swap
except it isn't all that, the head is fucked ( no matter cos
niab currently wears a 2.5 head anyway and it means I can leave
all the gubbins on it to fit to the 2.5 block)

I paid too much for the 2.5 and now have forked out on a box of
bits to re invigorate that shite:
proper AE rings, gaskets , shells etc etc etc
Cos the 2.5 fan won't fit in I thought I'd fit a leccy fan and
controller, which was todays little job to get me ahead of the
game when I come to change the engine;

oh, but it couldn't be that easy could it and after the spanner
slipped off an alternator tensioner bolt I was left with a
pretty fucked radiator - fuck!!!
Mr FT, the legend that he is is going to provide a replacement
rad and so the simple swap continues.........

No it doesn't! That's by far the nicest 2.25d land rover ever
made, hopefully the 2.5 keeps it "it" if that makes sense :)

Ha ha Skoze; it was, but now 'fubar'ed......and if the 2.5
doesn't keep it 'it' then it will have to get a 300tdi
It could, off course be the shortest engine replacement ever (
not really, but it could be short lived) .
I kicked the front cover off, removed the belt and found I had a
'more or less' siezed jector pump, fuck.
So; I don't want to get that reconned if the engine is still
wank and luckily FT has one I can borrow to detrimine that fate.
'On ever on' as we say round here:
Idiots guide to ring replacement ;D

Yeh, I can count to 4 and bag up as required , thanks Land
Rover.

Sooooo the engine, back on its munchkin legs and awaiting an
injector pump, belt , tensioner, head etc etc. Oh but I did
tidy up the 'shop' and now have a walt, Nuggett level work bench

Soooo; I got it it , the jury is still out on whether its any
good as the injector pump unions I fitted ( like a twat) leak
cos they are just 1/4bsp hose tails and not the proper olived
jobbies they should be, but I managed to drive t home and chuck
it into the garage for more 'fun' on a rainy day........
some 'notes' for anyone doing this.........
Make (as I did) or buy a bananna mount:

Remove everything from the battery area to leave this:
[URL=
HTML http://s257.photobucket.com/user/NIAB_02/media/IMAG0678_zps3da067f5.jpg.html]
Chop off bits:
[URL=
HTML http://s257.photobucket.com/user/NIAB_02/media/IMAG0685_zps2121e348.jpg.html]
Take the drivers side engine mount off the old engine and attach
it upside down with rubber mount to the banana mount:
[URL=
HTML http://s257.photobucket.com/user/NIAB_02/media/IMAG0687_zpse282884e.jpg.html]
Angrilly throw the replacement lump into the fuel filter ;D
before lowering it into place, using the relative levelness of
the gearbox to the tunnel housing as a guide and weld the old (
upside down) engine mount in place:
[URL=
HTML http://s257.photobucket.com/user/NIAB_02/media/IMAG0689_zps8d18e22e.jpg.html]
Thats it, simple really
I did cobble up a thottle link with a pice of rod and some ball
joints but it is not quite right as I can't get full travel on
the pump linkage, but that will come with a bit more fettling:
[URL=
HTML http://s257.photobucket.com/user/NIAB_02/media/IMAG0690_zps49650052.jpg.html]
The more observant of you will notice, I used the head off the
old original lump, thought it isn't the original head, it is a
late 2.25 metric one cos the 2.5 one was fubbared during active
'lets fuck it up cos we don't pay for it ' service..........
.....and with the original head came the inlet and exhaust
manifolds so I could use the quite new exhaust , did away with
internals of the butterfly valve , the vacuum tank and blanked
of that tank feed from the butterfly housing thingy...........

HTML http://s257.photobucket.com/user/NIAB_02/media/IMAG0684_zps7189f0c3.jpg.html]
[URL=
HTML http://s257.photobucket.com/user/NIAB_02/media/IMAG0691_zps3e1493aa.jpg.html]
and I'll see soon if ought else was treated the same way as the
head.......... :-?
Much thanks to Mr FT for the pump and more importantly the
advice;
