       Toots, 88" Hemi powered 2A

       Kia ora!, Toots is my 'longterm' project. A bit of history; For
       over five years Toots was sat rusting in the corner of a mates
       paddock over in Napier, Under a willow tree, After the rear diff
       destroyed itself. I had been offered Toots five years ago, As a
       project, But was too much for my pocket. Years later it had'nt
       moved and myself now working, I asked if it was still for sale.
       Notes exchanged, I went later on in the week to pick up and
       trailer Toots back home.
       Toots is a a truck cab, Fitted with a home made roll cage and a
       Koenig pto winch from the transfer box.
       Shoehorned in the engine bay is a Chrysler Hemi 6, From either a
       Charger or a Valliant. Back when I got it I did hook a battery
       up, Nothing worked, Exept the horn - hence the name!.
       It was bought new on 1st June 1966, At Wairoa, Northern Hawkes
       bay.
       Later in its life it was bought locally, and fitted with the
       Hemi 6 for club events.
       Some photos;

  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0027.jpg
       The whole front end pivots on hinges in the bullbars;
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0032-1.jpg
       Engine; Its fitted pretty well, But there is some bad wiring &
       plumbing bodges by p/o's
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0033-1.jpg
       The engine needs a starter motor and radiator.
       I have the air filter, But its painted the most gay pink ever,
       so I took it off to spare the photo, and your eyes!.
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0034-1.jpg
       The winch has been modified to run from the transfer case pto,
       With the original petrol 2.25 it would have run off the
       crankshaft
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0035-1.jpg
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0036-1.jpg
       Ive done a bit of tidying up and light degaying, removing the
       swing away wheel thing and some crap cheq plate stuff.
       I also cleaned out all the crap, Vaccuum cleaner attachments and
       Half dismantled things, from the rear tub, Including a new
       rocker cover and some series 1 rear axles.
       I found a good drivers side door in the shed, too!
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0030-1.jpg
       Then I shifted it around with the old zetor;
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0039-1.jpg
       And [s]rammed[/s], I mean 'gently pushed' it into the the shed!;
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0042-1.jpg
       When inside I jacked up the front and put it on axles stands,
       Gave the wheels a spin, Sounded like an earthquake!, The
       bearings are totally fucked.

       I started prodding the scabby rust patches on the chassis, where
       drain holes are blocked and mud and crap has gotten stuck
       inside;
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0037-1.jpg
       I spent a little while cutting out the rusty bits, and then
       cutting out new metal and welding it in;

       like), And bought it, so that should be arriving sometime soon.
       I had this radiator out of a series 2 I broke a while ago, I had
       session making it fit;
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0046-1.jpg
       Should have warned you about that pink air filter.
       The rad fits in the cradle alright, But need to sort the bottom
       hose entry around.
       So I set to swapping the hose stub around.
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0048-1.jpg
       Was easier than I thought it was going to be, Just made sure the
       parts to be soldered were spotless clean;
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0050-1.jpg
       Put it back in, plenty of room, thats gonna work a treat.

       Spent most of sunday pulling out that useless roll cage, It
       wasnt really supported by much,
       just the top of the arches on the rear tub, Held down with a
       heap of odd size bolts that had seized solid.
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0081-1.jpg
       Cut through the bolts with the angle grinder and biffed the
       rollcage outside;
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0082-1.jpg
       Dont worry about the seats, they aint staying!.
       I then removed the truck cab;

       Had a quick dismantling session before work, Took the seat box
       and tub off, Not much swearing, The bolts came out easily
       enough.
       Had a rummage in the diff pan, Looks like it did go bang!. Also
       found that the good front diff is "pegged".

       Since I've had the engine running, I've pulled off the carb,
       manifolds, And today, I pulled its head off.
       Easier said than done, Especially when some twits decided to
       glue it on with instant gasket, I had to use the engine crane to
       lift the head off, Could'nt budge it!
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0103.jpg
       With the head off it looks quite good inside, Better than I
       thought for an engine thats been sat for the the best part of 5
       years, The valves will need some attention.
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0106.jpg
       Possibly a broken spark plug point rattling around in there for
       a bit?
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0107.jpg
       I am well not looking forwards to scraping all the gasket goo
       off, Right mess.

       Thats it for new years day!, Have a good one!
       Wonder what other suprises ill find? welded on big ends...??

       I pulled the engine out and whipped the sump off to check
       bearings, The mains are as new, But the big-ends are down to the
       copper backing.
       Looking on the internet for a cheap gasket set proved to be
       impossible, So new big end shells and a gasket set was bought
       for a jaw dropping $400, about 200 quid!.
       Last weekend I cleaned off the instant gasket and stripped the
       cylinder head for bead blasting;
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0006-2.jpg
       The valves are pretty good and did clean up well when ground in,
       I attacked the ports with a drill mounted wire wheel;
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0007-2.jpg
       Once all the valves were in I blasted the rocker cover, which
       was painted with tar - Nice :-| . Then i got a bit crazy with
       the spray cans;
  HTML http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/hey124/RIMG0008-2.jpg
       Its growing on me!.

       drastic.
       The water jacket was full of scale, I took the core/welch plugs
       out and flushed all the crap out.
       Then got ready for some orange;

       Masked it up in places, sprayed with primer;

       Put a new camshaft front bearing in, Was a right twat of a thing
       to fit. And then fitted the camshaft, Timing gear & oil pump.
       A new neoprene rear seal was fitted in place of the rope type.
       All torqued up and turns over nicely;

       Cleaned the sump up with a wire wheel on an angle grinder and

       Went to clean up the manifolds, Noticed that the exhaust had
       some pretty awesome cracks running through it.
       Started to unbolt the two at the hotspot, And the exhaust just
       disentegrated into a few bits >:(
       In the end I ended up blitzing the last few reminents of exhaust
       to leave me with a good intake manifold.
       The good news is, that whilst trawling on trade me (again), I
       came up trumps with a cheap decent exhaust manifold :D
       So whilst I await for the "new" exhaust, and have nothing better
