Having had but a few opportunities of late in the OLLR
observatory, I have mostly been visually observing the planets
Mercury, Venus, Mars Jupiter and Saturn, who have been spread
across the sky of late.
Whilst Mercury is currently in new phase and far too close to
the Sun to be seen, the two bright objects in the Western sky
during the early evening are Venus, the brightest object in the
sky after the Sun, and Jupiter, which were in conjunction just
over a week ago.

Although the last couple of nights have been clear, there has
been a high moisture content in the air, which has made
observations pointless.

It's been a while simce I've done any astronomology of any real
note, however this week has given me a partial Lunar eclipse and
a transit of Venus to enjoy.
The eclipse was a surprise, as I was just expecting to get some
shots of a full moon rising, and found that there was an eclipse
on the go.
The transit of Venus is something I was well prepared for. I'd
seen the one in 2004 and as I knew that I had the best chance to
see the entoire thing from here in China, I had my 70-300mm zoom
lens, 2x teleconverter and a Baader solar safety film filter
ready and waiting.
I'm still working through the images, but here's a few to whet
your appetite:

during the day to be getting paid to do 'em, so once I do

Nice pix, Yeti, especially the transit. All Mrs Prime's PST got

I was lucky that my rotation placed me at work rather than at
home for this one, I'm also glad to have taken the time to
prepare for it by making a Baader Solar film filter for my lens
hood.
Further tweekery has given me even better results:

It is Persied meteor season once again. I'm hoping for a good
view, either here on the rig, or should the weather be kind to
me, onshore for a typhoon evacuation.

Been employing the scope muchly of lately, taking advantage of
the very dry (cloudless) period and hyper-clear nights here in
my part of France.
And with the Milky Way belting nicely above us and being
spellbindingly visible when what streetlights there are are
turned off, it's been a pretty good partner for a Drew who's
found it difficult to sleep with his imagination on fire,
following viewings of Carl Sagan's 'Cosmos' series.
Also, Davey...your new avatar doesn't half give one the
impression that you are Tom Noonan's Francis Dollarhyde in
'Manhunter' (if you remove the menacing half-stocking)...
