       2.5TD head onto 2.25D

Can I fit the head from the 2.5TD (minus the turbo) I have
sitting in my garage onto my 5brg 2.25. I need to do some work
on the 2.25 head as I am getting a knocking sound that I suspect
is an inlet valve but need to keep the land rover on the road as
       it is my work vehicle.
       Cheers

Not exactly. There were two types of TD head. One "may" swap,
the other certainly not. Show us pictures of the mating face of
the head or indeed the block it's off, and we can tell you.

Aren't the combustion chambers different sizes between the 2.25
and 2.5? I remember something about this when I was ordering
new hotspots, and I think the 2.5 head would end up lowering the
       CR.

On the subject of mating surfaces, I replaced the head gasket a
few weeks ago and the gasket I was suplied states that it fits
2.25, 2.5n/a and 2.5TD. As for comustion chambers, that thought
       hadnt occured to me.
Im just sounding out some options for now. I hope I dont need to
swap the head at all as I still need to check the injectors and
pushrods. It seems to be down on power and chucking out more
       black smoke than normal.

Having just looked at a pic of the 2.5 TD head, ive just noticed
the pipes to the heater matrix both run to the water pump rather
than one running from the matrix back into the rear of the head.
Until i look at the engine itself again in the morning , it
looks like a no go-er :banghead

Knock and smoke after changing a head gasket ? Are you sure all
the old injector sealing washers were removed and or replaced
correctly ? I have found 2 or more washers in heads over the
years and some fitted upside down. Run the engine and crack
injector pipes one at a time to see if knock stops. It may be a
       simple fix.

Yeh the injectors and seals were all removed and replaced
correctly. Cracking the fuel lines off in turn will be first on
the checklist tomorrow followed by checking for bent pushrods
and then off with its head again if i have too to inspect the
valves and hot spots. Hopefully it will be somthing simple. Just
keeping my fingers crossed its not a buggered little end though
       I suspect not.
