How do I tell?
It is modern, has late valves and casting 588081
Diesel
any clues please?

Hmmm. Early 5BRG heads for Series 2286 have big heater plug
holes, laters are small. I always thought they were
interchangeable, and there were no real differences,. but be
certain to use washers under the head bolts to prevent
"bubbling".

The bolt thread size on my '82 head is imperial, i know this
because I had to use metric size bolts to fit a 2.5 head. ie.
the thermo housing, the lifting eyes, the intermediat rocker
shaft bolts, the injector studs, the glow plugs, possibly the
temp sender , possibly the heater pipe outlet ( though the last
two might be BSP and therefore the same) ....... is that it? I
can't rememeber anything else being metric.
The heater pipe outlet is different , I know , but I'd have to
go back through some tickets to see what it was.

I think Paddocks list a conversion kit to fit metric head to
imperial engine. Or the other way round ? I noticed something on
their site when trawling through for parts to rebuild my 2286
diesel.
