Can you use an Optima Red Top battery in a Series (2.25petrol)?
The manual says to use a 58ah battery, but a Red Top is 50ah.

Should be fine mate.... My mate runs one in his supercharged
       10.5 litre model T...
I've got a yellow top in Zeb (deep cycle) and it spins a 2.5
       transit diesel with no bother.

It'll be fine Berry. I'm still using a ten year old one. The
only drawback is that if you ever need to charge it up, you need
a charger that is suitable for AGM type batteries.

Optima's are pretty hardy to most abuse. I've been using a blue
top (Marine I think?) which I found at the scrap yard. I've been
using it to start a 200 tdi which is left standing for long
periods but it always starts it. I've had it for about five
years and god knows how old it was when I found it, I'd
       recommend them to anyone.

I reckon my red top is loosing the will to live. I was testing
the lights the other day for MOT. It flattened the battery.
must have been 10 mins top. Not sure what's the best thing to
       do to recover the charge.

I've got one that shows 12.8 v with an ammeter but will it
bollocks turn my engine over. barely even throws the solenoid on
the starter. Dunno what to do with it truth be known.
