Door "fit" question

I have a "door fit" problem:
I tried to fit my roof rack, it's the typr that clamps around
the gutter, not the one that you have to drill the gutter. The
clamp that goes over the bottom of the gutter is only a feww mm
thick.
On the nearside, it won't fit. The top of the nearside door top
is too close to the under side of the hard top and the door top
scrapes against the roof rack clamp.
On the offside, there is a good 10mm clearance between the top
of the door top and the under side of the hard top and the roof
rack clamps fit without problem.
Is this sort of tolerance normal?
both sides "look" okay and the alignment of the door bottoms
both look reasonable (not that there is much you can adjust if
not)
I need to get the tape measure out and compare both sides to see
what's "wrong" then work out if I can alter anything to make it
right.

you can adjust the door hinges both on the door side and the
frame side :popcorn:
however - odds are the captive nuts on the frame may not like
this and become 'uncaptive'
try to adjust just on door side - it may be enough :-?

But at the moment the door bottom looks right, i.e the capping
strip of the door lines up with the capping strip on the tub.
If I drop the door to make enough clearance, it will look like
the door has sagged in relation to the tub.
I think I've found the "problem" measuring as best as I can
(bearing in mind it's parked drivers side tight against a fence)
it's beginning to look like the nearside door top is about 5mm
taller than the offside door top. Probably some after market
door top built to shit tollerances?
I'll move her away from the fence later and measure more
accurately.

i have the roof rack on mine and i found that when fitted the
roof squared itself up with the roofrack and over time all lines
up on its own :-?
but i agree with your thought on the doortop - it could just be
a crap aftermarket item - do you have a spare one to try ?

Door top height is indeed my problem
The nearside doortop measures 20 1/2" inches tall. The offside
one only 20 1/4"
I would be interested if anyone else cares to go and measure the
height of their door tops to see what they should be.
Mine isn't a full roof rack, rather two sections one front one
rear just for carrying ladders etc, so an interim solution has
been to mount the front one just behind the doors, which
obviously means less distance between them.

measured both of mine - and both are 20 1/2"

Thanks.
That "helps" is so far as determining there is nothing "wrong"
with the one that's giving me trouble, and the other one, with
plenty of clearance, is the one that's "wrong"
I always thought Landrover body panels were never precision fit
items. Now I know that is the case.

"Engineer" a slot into the top of your door with an
appropriately hefty kinetic energy application device ..... or
an angle grinder....

I have recently fitted new door tops to mine. Just measured the
o/s and it is 20 1/2".
It is quite close at the top, something i never noticed until i
read this post.
It doesn't really matter though because it has a canvas on
anyway. :thumbs:
