       Funny noises,vibration and fwd.

1.Recently on a journey home i had some vibration issues which
made there way up through to the steering wheel
I removed the rear prop and one of the ujs was toast, so
       replaced and refitted prop
Of i set to the south coast last weekend and the viration is
still there,so i removed the rear prop on the hard shoulder of
       the 303 and carried on.
The vibration seems less without it so im guessing it may be the
       rear diff
2.Anyhow,whilst driving in fwd i came to a small roundabout and
as i turned tightly to navigate it there was some serious
snatching of the steering wheel, such that i could hardly control
       the thing
3.Ive also had this strange grating noise that only seems to be
heard when i turn tightly to get on my drive,it sounds like a
spring that is caught and being stretched against metal, its
wierd, it went through the last MOT with it and ive stripped the
front axle to check the condition of the brakes/springs and
wheel bearings and they are all fine and well lubricated
Any ideas on any of this? I need the crate roadworthy in a
       couple of weeks time.

hmm sounds like wind up, i get it as my tyres are slightly
different sizes and it snatches the wheel about, reverse it out.
But since you ve removed the prop then its probably not the rear
i imagine. It could be a front uj in the swivels dying i suppose
or something as silly as tyre balance. Another thing could be
       the steering relay??

Can you get wind up in 2wd Perks?
I did approx 140 mile round trip, 130 of that in fwd with no
       rear prop
The snatching only occurred at the one small roundabout with the
power on, if i turn tightly with the clutch dipped it doesn't do
       it.
(I have edited original post as there are 3 issues.)

hmm i dont think you can really but id expect just driving
through the front for it to pull on full lock anyway. vibration
is always hard to find but the rear diff will still be turning
with the prop so could be that. best to check everything from
back to front............might take a while! :2mo5pow: or just
drive it till summit goes bang...... rofl

I'd expect the steering to snatch at full lock under power on a
hard surface when using only front axle drive, due to the fronts
being UJ and not CV in the swivels.

Front axle, what condition are the halfshaft joints in, they
will snatch in front wheel drive/ 4wd as the universal joints in
the halfshafts try to straighten out.
       Check swivel play.
       U bolts and shackles
       front Prop.
Rear axle, Diffs are usually pretty indestructable, has it got
oil in? wheel bearings ok, springs tight again?
       is their oil in everything?
