       KNN's got a new Bird!!

Got a new Landrover family member, series 3 88" 1971 coming next
weekend, having sealed the deal yesterday and paid deposit.
Pretty sure she's a girl, and my older series 2 fella KEN should
       like his younger girlfriend.
It drove pretty well and the gauges seemed to read correctly
with no unusual noises from anything, so should be good for 100m
       run home.
The only noise I did notice was a ticking/rattling noise from
around the timing case area when the engine was idling. Went
       away when revv'ed a little.
Is this likely to be a lack of tension on the timing chain?

       Here she is

Summer tidy up project for my 22year old daughter, so not sure
yet how long she will stay (the Landy, not my daughter - but
       then again????)
       Mark
PS Gotta come up with a name, but number plate doesn't shout
       anything obvious.

Looked a nice cheap runabout did that!
The sound you describe does sound like a timing chain rattle to
       me too.

glad it found a loving home my kids don't mind the land rover in
the winter or topless in the two weeks of summer but there's no
way they want one as a daily driver :-?
not 100% sure but it's probably something to do with something
       always breaking :2mo5pow:

Nice looking Landy there..If it is timing chain rattle the only
way to know for sure whats up is to strip it and have a look.
Could be the anti rattle pad has worn away, the chain could be
worn or the tensioner is shagged causing the chain to slap
       about...

       Anti rattle pad.
Now there's a useful sounding thing.
       What's the most likely?
The slightest pressure on the throttle makes the noise dissapear
and the engine rev's really smoothly.
