Just seen on the LRSOC forum that there is to be a 'new' Classic
Land Rover magazine on the shelves from May? Does anyone know
       anything about it? Kev?
Anyway, it gets my vote, and its about time too!

I had a flick through the "prototype" of it today, it was mostly
filled with fabricated articles which were just gobbledygook
with non relevant pictures (albeit of series landys) but the
layout and couple of articles which were real looked good, and I
think it's a good idea as I think some of the other mags are
getting a bit stale, although they'd have to go some to fill a
full size mag up twelve times a year purely with leafers. We'll
       see how it goes...

       Maybe!
There have been rumours going round for a long time, I hope it's
a success as it could be really good. REALLY good!

They went stale ages ago which is why I don't buy them anymore,
although i have been caught reading the Series section ;-) Too
much bling added to shiny expensive Land Rovers, which isnt my
       cup o't.
Think they could fill a Leafer mag easy with lots of stuff about
Series, but mainly basic everyday tips'n'tricks, how to keep
them running on the road and have articles on owners everyday
vehicles. People love to read about other peoples lives with
leafers and the way they are tinkered with and adapted or
converted to suit our needs and all on a low budget! Look on any
Land Rover related forum and its always the Series section that
       is the busiest.
Anyway keep us posted if/when its published as I will be
       subscribing.

I think Dengie has hit it on the head - anyone can go and buy a
brand new motor, cover it in winches and stuff, then drive
across Africa or wherever. Not everyone can get an old leafer,
rebuild it on a shoestring and drive it across europe. The
latter is much more of an adventure.
All old leafers have their own story to tell - and I am sure
they will through the pages of this new publication.....

Having read back my post, I didn't mean to sound negative, I
       think it's a great idea!
And Dengie, you're probably right, just looking at the amount of
subjects and discussions on this one forum, there probably is
enough to write about. Plus there's plenty of scope for ongoing
       articles and topics.

Without wanting to sound negative ....
I do wonder about the market for a leafer/classic "magazine"
The thing is a lot of folks (myself included) tend to use fora
as a substitute for a magazine ...Ok you can't sit in the
smallest room in the same way with a laptop/etc
BUT forums in general are a almost constantly updated and
readable media for Landrover reading ....without waiting for the
next months issue to land on the mat .

I have to agree with Mistericeman.
I used to subscribe to two "Land Rover Magazines" now I dont
have subscriptions for any and I get my "Land Rover Fix" from
reading this forum on a regular basis. (Could possibly be
       described as "lurking"

Much of what you say is very true Iceington.
At two different publishers I was involved in trying to get a
Classic LR mag off the ground, in both cases it was killed stone
dead by the advertising people claiming they wouldn't make
enough money. Their definition of 'enough money' differs
somewhat to mine but there we go.
I don't know the full story with this one, but it is possible to
run a mag fairly cheaply and survive at it. Just look at the
number of vintage tractor mags on the market. Figures show that
one of the mainstream LR mags sell less than 5000 copies a
month; I would have thought that you would get somewhere close
to that with a really good Series mag targeted properly.
