Bleeding diesel. Again!

Hello everyone, long time no see...
I could swear. A lot.
I have checked and triple checked all my pipes and hoses, all
the connections etc. None of the diagrams in any of my manuals
(I have several) match the setup I seem to have - it's more a
mix of two types, but looks original to be fair.
Anyway, I have fuel to the filter, fuel to the first bleed screw
on the pump (nearest engine) but nothing from the second bleed
screw, and nothing to the injectors. The lift pump is working
fine. What the hell am I doing wrong? I've bled so many diesel
engines at work on generators but never had this before.
Baffled, don't laugh :haha:
Help please before I lose my mind. Its been about two years
since the engine ran.

You could try filling up the pump with a syringe. That will help
you get it going. Also a tow start should get it all going as
well

Need to bleed it with foot flat to the floor and stop cable all
the way in.

You might need to lightly tap the side of the pump to free off
the stop mechanism, they can stick shut if left and the lever
moves but the internals do not.

I had somthing similar when i fitted the new to me diesel in my
land rover last weekend. I wasnt getting anything to the second
bleed screw but when i cracked off the pipe to no.1 injector and
cranked it with foot to the floor for about 10 seconds I got
fuel out.

Oh you lovely lovely people. You've given me hope, and a couple
of things to try. The stuck stop mechanism sounds particularly
likely.
Thank you, I'll report back, and update you all on what I've
been up to since the times I used to hang about these parts more
frequently (not that there's been much of interest..)

You're back. That's the main thing. If it's fucked, I may have a
spare pump. But they're getting thin on the ground these days.
Exchange only!

Hello again, :)
Well I had a good few hours last night 'faffing'. I first fitted
the accelerator pedal including all the rods and such, then
wedged the pedal down to the floor before I tried anymore
priming. I gave the pump a few 'taps' of varying intensity
(directly proportional to my growing frustration) and for a
while saw no improvement. Then, all of a sudden, a tiny dribble
of fuel out of the previously dry bleed screw. However a
further two hours or so failed to bring any to the injectors.
This suggests to me that it's not just me being a brain dead
numpty there must be something more to it.
This engine is unproven - the guy delivered the truck, I ran it
once and then started stripping down. Well, it was sunny, I had
a few days off and I was in a good mood. If you all remember I
had stripped it down and started the repairs fairly rapidly and
had practically a complete rolling chassis in next to no time.
Unfortunately since that initial spurt I've only really managed
to find the time to get the body back on. I started sanding down
for painting and then the heavens opened, and pretty much stayed
open constantly for the last two sodding years. The odd decent
day we've had I've had jobs to do, or spent it on the family.
Jobs like this:

/>This was my first commissioned composite image and is for some
sort of game (with zombies in it..)
Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome 'back' - I haven't found
more time or anything I've just decided I ought to make more of
an effort as I do miss being on here. Can't promise I'll be
around as regular as before but I'll try. Obviously I also have
other motives - ie I'm trying to get the truck back on the road
and I'll likely need help. Of course if I can help anyone I will
do, it's not a one way street, never expected anything for
nothing me.
Thanks for the help so far, and thank you for warning me about
the pump rarity these days (can't believe I gave two good pumps
away a few years ago...)
