Daw Mill is shit hot (literally) steam coal :( AND the mine was
on borrowed time anyway... great shame.

Bad news today then. The irony is that it looks like the future
of the mine could have been secured following company
restructuring.
56,000,000 tons of coal remain underground.
Very distressing for the 600+ staff who face redundancy.

Slightly ironic given the nature of most coal mines that water
hasn't put the fire out ...
Great shame that the future of this mine has been lost ...I
cannot help but wonder just how much effort has been put into
extinguishing the fire beyond turning the forced ventilation off
.???

Bloody annoying this, especially now we have to import gas from
Russia.
We have years worth of good coal in this country, we could be
almost self-sufficient, if only those :wanker: mp's would
realize that wind is not the future. :loser:

More like economics (And a camouflaged plan to force "Green"
power on folks ....
I still fail to see how the hell it's cheaper to ship coal from
Poland/Russia etc, than it is to mine it in this country
....especially when you factor the job losses and
landscaping/maintenance involved in shutting perfectly viable
collieries down AND killing off of communities/towns/and pit
villages .
