       2.5 diesel. Straight swap?
   DIR By: Baldy 1

       Got the chance of a brand new/ unused 2.5 n/a diesel. I i said
on a previous post, the current 2.25 is very smokey and i have
not been able to cure it. My train of thought is, this engine is
new so should work without problems?
I was thinking of going down the 200 tdi route but i must admit
that i do prefer the rawness of of a basic engine, plus it is
getting harder and harder to find a good un.
Is the 2.5 n/a a straight swap? Does the exhaust etc need to be
       changed?
       Any help greatly received. *help*

Unless itis a 15j sherpa version the 2.5 needs engine mount cut
       off and moving

       I have 2,5 N/A in my 88. I didn't do the transplant myself, but
       here's what I know:
One engine mount needs to move, the battery tray has been made
detachable and you will need to run an electric feed to the
       pump.
The exhaust doesn't need to be modified, but I think I have the
exhaust manifold off the original 2,25. You will also need to
use the series clutch and cover.

Not sure if the clutch cover on 2 1/4 diesels and petrols are
the same but im just about to put a 19j td in my 109 which was a
2 1/4 petrol and its cover does not fit. Also it all seems to be
metric so clutch bolts and engine mount bolts etc are different.
Small probs but stuff that needs thinking about!

       I've learnt this recently,
yes to exhaust , use the manifold off your 2.25
use the thermo housing off your 2.25
yes, the heads are metric threaded , assume block is too.
fuel cut off solenoid needs to go to a switch, you might have
noticed when you turn over a series 3, power is cut to
everything else, so choose where you feed a wire to carefully.
I'm going to feed to a switch with a doomsday cover to stop it
getting knocked off accidently when ferretting about for
       something in the dash!
o/s engine mount needs removing and replacing with a defender
       banana mount nrc5434.
cut the o/s chassis mount off
weld the old engine mount bracket upside down to the chassis
when the engine is in the correct place.
you only need to cut a three inch square out of the corner of
the battery tray to get the pump past it. You'll lose the tray
leg anyway when youlop the chassis mount off.
I haven't done this work yet but its just bits i've learnt from
       fellow converties.
oh and the 2.5 fan don't fit.

The Shilpa unit had an oil cooler as standard in the 350s and
400s. I tended to keep the cooler intact, and fit above the
steering relay, in the airflow by the radiator. Easy to do by
       wangling the hoses about.

Apologies, I thought we were talking about LR 2.5 n/a's.
Does this mean stevelamac has a shilpa?
