Uber-drill

Thought I'd share a few piccys of the machine I've been using
today - it's a 1966 adjustable drill, and weighs about 3 tons...
In total there are 7 position adjustments:
Main pillar - forward/backward on base carriage
Main arm - rotate round pillar
Main arm - lift/drop along pillar (powered)
Main arm - tilt up/down relative to pillar
Main arm - in/out from pillar
Drilling head - rotate through aprox 300deg in plain of the main
arm
Drilling head - rotate through 360 degrees, in opposite plain to
the main arm (hard one to describe really - easier when you've
seen it!)

It's a bit of a camel of a thing to drive, particularly till you
get used to it, but it is very very handy for some jobs. AFAIK,
no-one makes anything like it these days, the invention of the
mag-drill did away with most of the uses for a thing like that.
It is however rather good for removing welded firebox stays,
which is what I'm doing here...

Don't blame me - that was Andy who wanted it - and IIRC it was
his radio...
