Too many coilers!

So me an my bro went to a bearmach landrover offroad event in
Devon last Sunday- about 20 defenders and discos turn up, all
pretty well kitted out, and yet we were the only 2!!! Leaders
there:-(:-( is this becoming more common?! When will people
realise their silly errors!?

Just consider yourself one of the Elite. Given they stopped
making proper landrovers almost 30 years ago its amazing so many
are still about.... tho I saw some stats a while back showing
the fall-off in numbers registered on the road and its dropping
fast :-(

They still exsist, theyre just resting in garages or being re
fettled ready to be used again ;-)

Leafers seem to be dying out in trialing events as well, our
local club has about 3 standard leafers and 3 modified leafers
on range rover axles in RTV. We all run together with the
boingys but the modified leafers seem to do better than the
boingys most of the time! There was only 11 standard leafers
trialing at the nationals last year compared to 80 odd standard
boingys.
It certainly doesn't help the fact that most Series chassis need
replacing, parts not so plentiful and prices of vehicles on the
increase. I've built a standard Series 3 for trialing and now to
scared to push its limits due to damage so end up backing off,
hence now building something else for playing with.

Ay that's a problem I guess! Keeping a leafer in good nick- but
then what's a toy if not to be fixed every now and then:-) was
happy today saw another series driving through Exeter I hadn't
seen before, and a neighbour said she was admiring my truck the
other day, ooh yeah way to pull!!

Just got mine back on the road today after 18 months of
ownership. So 1 more for those stats! It did its dammed best not
to get to the test centre with a clutch failure :2mo5pow: ,
followed by new clutch fitted in 1day (thanks to Paddocks for
the parts) failed on two minors which were rectified Saturday
only for it to decide to shed a brake pipe before the retest
today, but a very helpful mechanic friend doing the work managed
to sort it and we are now rolling n >rock<

One other reason is statisically speaking it takes a bit of work
to get a leafer to consistant beat the coilers at non speed
events. It's got a lot more to do with axle location and lock
than anything else. The springs are quite far down that list
really.
As Dengieboy knows only too well!
Question is what engine/box config are you going for for the
trial build? Auto Rover 827's still keep coming up on the bay of
e now and again? :rolleye0012:
I'd genuinely love to build a comp safari motor on leaves that
can challenge the coilers. Certainly the LR based vehicles.
It's a matter of packaging.

I understood the "wonderful" government scrappage scheme saw off
a significant number of Series Landys, resulting in inflated
prices for the remaining examples.

I reckon you could count the leafers that went in the scrappage
on one hand, maybe two at a push.
They are getting pricey as they are old and people like old
things - supply and demand.
