Re-wiring started.

As I don't want to be labelled a 'lurker' :loser:, I thought I
would do an update on 'George'.
I have relocated the fuel pump into the seatbox. This frees up
some space for me to use for the new fuse/relay setup.
Also I have moved the washer bottle back under there as it was
an eyesore in the engine bay.
I have made a start on the new loom, hopefully I can make it
look tidy as my skills are somewhat lacking.

Just take time on the wiring and you'll be fine.
Take notes as well for relays etc and cabling for future
reference (dont ask I how i learnt that!) :thumbs:

The brackets are a bit rough but I will probably replace them
when I get some better tools and such.

i also built my own wiring harness for my '65 109, i used the
remains of a disco harness that i stripped and cleaned the
individual wires for an approximate match to the original
colours, 4 relays (2 for dip/main, 1 for spotlights and one for
electric fan) and bought an aftermarket 6 fuse holder along with
a long enough piece of trailer cable to feed all my rear lights
and trailer socket
i used the wiring diagram from the Haynes manual for the '68
lights in wings to assist me and a multimeter to check the
combined ignition/lights switch positions/connections (no idea
what year/model you're sorting) and once i had set where the
switches/fuses etc' were going to be mounted i started with the
heavy feeds from/to the starter button and up to the fuse box
and ignition switch
i laid each wire individually round the bulkhead to the engine
and radiator panel and terminated them as i fitted them so that
i didn't have random ends floating about and having to go back
to recheck that they were connected
all wires were fed through loose zip ties to assist holding them
in position so that i didn't have any too short or too long for
where i wanted them to fit (always err on the long side), being
as i had a roll of black wire handy i added in loads of earth
wires rather than just rely on the panels and chassis
i've not wrapped my harness, just tiny zip ties every few inches
and a couple of P clips
i like building harnesses, therapeutic concentration that allows
you to ignore everything else, i can't/haven't bothered to do
the blog thing unless it's rebuild/work threads on the forums
although i do have the odd squint at other folks blogs

Both of those examples look great, that is somewhat like I am
aiming for, but with the best will in the world I won't be able
to make it look quite so good. :2mo5pow:
I am also working from one of those circuit diagrams, they are
very useful.

And at last George is back on the road.
I have finally finished (well mostly) the wiring, just a few
bits left to do.
In the end all the ideas of doing it proper morphed into a
design where as much as possible of the wiring is hidden away.
Most of the the relays and fuses are in a sealed tub located on
a bracket in the top front left of the centre seat box. There
are couple in the dash for the blower and the wipers.
The main power cabling is dealt with by some 12 & 7 core caravan
stuff, the switch gear is done with recycled 4 core serial
cable. Most of the other wires, fuses and relays come from the
loom of a 1990 era Izuzu Trooper.
I have put some photos on my shitblog, they are a bit too big to
post here.
Of course, I have now found a new problem, in that the idle sits
at 1500+ when it gets warm - any ideas?
