Workshop meet, Halesworth, Suffolk - March 2nd/3rd
By: eastern-101 Date: February 17, 2013, 10:35 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Got a bunch of friends coming down to a mates farm over the
weekend of March 2nd/3rd to assist me in getting some mileage
with the rebuild on my 101 indoors.
Over the weekend the aim is to:
Weld up the rear crossmember
finish slapping paint around chassis and axles
mate the 200Tdi and LT77 with new clutch
fit the 200Tdi/box into the chassis and make up new mounts to
suit
time up the 200tdi
plumb in radiator and fit intercooler
fabricate some form of exhaust
run new copper brake pipes
produce some form of working steering.
plus any other additional work that can be completed over the
weekend, the basic aim is get the vehicle to some sort of stage
where it actually runs and moves, then I can start working at
home to do the wiring harness and overhauling the brakes. the
chap with the farm has suggested the more the merrier and
therefore I may need a mortgage for the food and alcohol but
will make sure there is plenty on hand...
Anyone want to come and have a laugh?

I've got a trip to Cornwall in the diary for that date but if it
goes tits then I would love to come over. You could use keg as
a template.

The things I am having 2nd thoughts about.
Not keeping standard 101 rad
Not keeping 101 oil cooler
not being able to have a viscous fan (maybe I have to think
about it)
As you might be able to tell cooling is an issue. It may be my
stupid kenlow isn't set up right but I just feel pulling along
the 101 the 300tdi gets hotter and with rad so far back it
really needs some help especially going up long steep hot hills.
I'm thinking of putting my big 101 rad back in (loads of
cooling even with craplowe fan) Tomorrow I'm going to try and
refit my oil cooler. just for added cooling in the big lump..
I'm starting with that as it's the easiest job to start with and
see how I get on from there.
My 300tdi got upto 100'C today offroading. The fan didn't come
on but I have lowered it now.
I love my Lt95 as I still have the winch and I love all the
levers in the truck which I am not willing to compromise.

I'm still keeping all the levers in place on mine, well the two
I've got for it anyway, don't have winch so no point on that
one...
