       Lola is dead
By: onfire Date: February 11, 2013, 9:32 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
As I drove home from work on Friday a complete cunt entered a
roundabout with the sun in his eyes, dazzling him and broadsided
me. The impact (estimated to be between 50 and 55mph by the cars
behind him ... although he swears it was only slow) was enough
to shunt me and then topple the Land Rover. I was unbelievably
lucky to escape with no injuried whatsoever ... especially as a
clear out at home meant that (on this occasion) I had a hi-lift
jack in the passenger footwell, a 2 tonne trolley jack, an axe,
a bottle jack, shovel, recovery kit, 2 ammunition boxes and 2
rucksacks floating in the rear of the vehicle throughout the
       crash and roll!!
The guy hit me in an Hyundai Sante Gay with enough force to roll
and write off my vehicle ... but the Police officer on scene
decided that 'these things happen' and sent the driver on his
way without so much as a caution let alone points for driving
without due care and attention! The recovery driver who
collected Lola expected me to be dead, and the state of the roof
suggests that a passenger almost certainly would have been ...
but as long as that dickhead got home in time for his tea then
       wheres the harm??

I have rebuilt Lola over two years and almost everything was new
... the list I have to submit to the insurance includes new:
Complete brake system - pipes, cylinders, 11in TLS drums and
       shoes on front
       Swivel balls, bearings etc
       Steering column, box, relay
       Clutch, cylinders and pipe
       Seats
Halogen headlight upgrade and new lights all round
Overdrive inc RM disptick and filler cover
       Parabolic springs (GB Springs)
       Reconditioned gearbox
Rebuilt engine, unleaded head and electronic distributor
       Swingaway spare wheel carrier
       Rebuilt starter motor
       Alternator
       Complete Autosparks wiring loom
       X Eng disc handbrake
Ring automotive LED work lamps x4
       Heavy Duty Roofrack
       Waxoyled chassis
       Soundproofing (DIY job)
       Exhaust system
       Propshafts front and rear
       Towbar and electrics
four point harnesses and seatbelt bar
       rear bench seat
(Lola was built for the AA on a heavy duty chassis with
       removable crossmember)
I wonder (as the insurance valuation is underway) what you think
the value of my pride-and-joy might realistically have been?
       Thanks

Glad you came out of it ok - what were the cops thinking! Surely
that should have been "without due care & attention" especially
with the witnesses to his speed :2mo5pow:
What do you do if the sun's in your eyes and you can't see -
simples, just carry on and hope nothing's coming

I would be wanting to know why the police aren't doing anything
about the other drivers lack of attention at the wheel. Was the
Sante Fe able to drive off ? What was the damage to that ?

Bloody hell you were lucky there - Certainly glad you didn't
have a passenger. Agreed - make sure you get the salvage. Most
       part should be transferable.
