As mentioned in above post, here are some pictures of the
Veteran Motorcycle Club event of last sunday in Luyksgestel;
Late model T120 Bonnie in Caféracer style complete with humped
seat and clip ons, accompanied by a BSA single (B33?);

Awesome Triumph T110 Tiger in a great colourscheme (with at the
back a model 88 500cc Norton Dominator in slimline featherbed
frame);

Another one of my absolute favourites of this event, a twenties
Norton model 18 500cc single flattanker with open hairpin
valves;

1935 Terrot 500cc sidevalve single, has some components that I
could use on my restoration!;

Keeping it French, a very nice Magnat Debon sidevalve single
from 1933;

And finally, my absolute favourite bike of this event, a late
thirties 'Cammy' Norton, a Norton OHC International which is
basically the road verison of the famous Manx racers;

Being a member of the VMC, and the French motorcycle club I'm
aiming to visit some more events this year to give me further
inspiration to work on my 1930/31 Terrot. If anybody is

Very liking the Nortons, Ruud. Indeed, inspired by my dad (I'll
come back to his history, shortly), it was my desire for a
Commando 850 Interstate, when I was 18, which, ultimately, saw
me get my car licence and leave muscle bikes alone.
The story was that I'd been out on my pushbike and was doing a
hairy descent of a long bendy hill outside Oldham. Right-hand
bend in the middle of the left lane for me and around in the
opposite direction comes some airhead, over the centre line. I
took evasive action and thought I'd pulled it off whilst
scraping the kerb, until I hit a rut and did the classic
somersault over the bars.
Superblonde, seeing the action in the mirror, comes running down
the road whilst I'm putting my front wheel back on and checking
the true and the brakes. She's all ambulance talk whilst I just
told her it was cool and would she mind letting me carry on my
ride. Because if there's one thing I like it's hair-raising
speed on two wheels.
That night I had proper back shakes and ended-up going to the
hospital to ensure I didn't have some delayed spinal damage. I
told myself there and then that I wouldn't be buying a Norton
with some bank-cash, as if there was one thing I didn't need
between my legs when on a bike was an engine. I promptly did my
driving licence and bought a Leafer.
As for my dad...he was a big Norton man in the 60s and had a
Dominator Twin.
At the time he was copper and was on desk duty when a geezer
came in reporting his bike as having been stolen. A rare thing
back then as everybody had a motorbike, but it turned-out that
the stolen wheels were a Norton 650SS, which struck a chord with
my old man and the two got chatting Norton.
By pure coincidence, on my dad's way home he found the bike down
an alleyway and, having the blokes address (not far away) in his
head, he wheeled the undamaged (simply been used for a ride home
for somebody) bike to the chaps home. He was, of course, chuffed
to bits and remarked how it was a bit queer as he was actually
selling the machine. And what did my old man do?...Bought it,
there and then, with the money he and my mum were saving-up to
get married.
Needless to say, she was none too pleased. But daddy-o was
having none of it and still maintains it was the best Norton he
had, giving reports of him hitting top speed on the clock and
the engine still rising in revs with comfortable ease.

Awesome story Drew, thanks for sharing!! I'm also very much a
Norton-guy myself! The 650SS was an awesome bike back in the
day, the benchmark for speed and roadhandling and so was the
Commando when it hit the streets in 1969.
To be honest I always liked the 750 Commando (especially the SS
and the Roadster) more than the 850 Interstate. The slimmer tank
just looks better in my opinion on that bike.

>sigh< back in the day when men were men and the women-folk got
a slap if they questioned it. These days, the Mrs is an
independant woman. What she earns is hers. And it would seem
that what I earn is hers too... :confused:

Irresponsible alcoholic, most certainly. But never given to
domestic violence.

Yes Rudd, the Bonnie is the 1st 5 speed model, T140V (V=5),
produced by the workers co-operative at Meriden.
Today I took it over the Snake Pass and back:
