Just found these:
This first one is my dad's M20 - bought "new" as an Ex-Wd
machine, never in service and "civilianised" by Pride and Clarke
in London. He got back from Italy after the war late in 1946 and
there's a picture of my big sister sitting on it that was taken
the same time in which she looks about six months old, which
would put this picture sometime late 1947. Well before my time!

Here's one of dad sat on a Triumph TR3HW, a 350cc OHV single. He
was senior NCO I/C of an infantry brigade workshop, so had the
ability to snaffle the best of the available bikes for himself.
This one, apparently, lived in the back of his lorry under lock
and key... He said it was much lighter and nippier than the M20s
were.

I asked him once why he chose the M20 when he got home rather
than something like the Triumph and he said that, whilst the
Triumph was much nicer to ride the BSAs were more reliable and
if he had ever found himself in a situation where he absolutely
had to be somewhere, or if his life depended on it, he'd have
always taken one of the M20s...

G'day Glen, i remember you selling that but in my case a family
never stopped me i just put a sidecar on another Matchless that
i had which was a 650 CSR with double adult Busmar chair.
Maybe not a busmar but a smaller chair would have been nice on
the old BSA with knocking a tooth off the crank sprocket and she
would have been lovely not that she isn't in that picture.
I am afraid my old chop will be with me till my last breath and
in my will it is stated that she will leave this earth with me
in a box. Sad or what. Catch you later. R-Rose ;).

Yes Glen i to have delt with Pride & Clark for a genuine Big End
in 1969 they are nice pictures by the way.

Not sad at all Brad - I'm not sure if they can dig a hole big
enough for me to be buried in my 109", but I suppose if my boy
wants it when he's bigger I'd better let him have it!
I did (briefly) entertain ideas of a chair - the M33 was a
factory "sidecar special" with the M20's heavyweight frame and
forks, and the B33 OHV engine, it had all the frame mounting
lugs for a sidecar but I don't really enjoy riding anywhere near
as much as I used to, so decided best to flog it and buy
something with a roof!
I should really try and get up to see your collection of stuff
one day... You sound like a man after my own heart!

G'day Glen, as i have said to all like minded people who think
and tinker like myself the door is always open but if you ever
do arrive don't be surprised if i don't ask for a hand with
something while you are here.
Apart from moving to this house 30 years ago i had 12 bikes all
in one go so owning more than one machine is nothing new to me
but my trucks are a tad bigger but the car i did bring with me
was my VW camper with a recon factor motor in it and even
though she was only a 1600cc she was no slow coach and i had
many a journey wioth my family but the bike scene appealed more
at the time so i sold her on.
What i do like about the VW scene is there club activities are
great and they have some really nice motors and events which are
great to attend with the family.

I am really enjoying this discussion. I love old motorcycles as
much as I love old Land Rovers.
My daily commute is a 14-year old Harley Softail Springer. I
also own a 1980 Honda CB750. Not as impressive as some of the
machines you guys have, but the passion is there nevertheless.
Here in South Africa we have an annual rally over two days for
pre-1936 motorcycles, called the DJ (Durban to Johannesburg) I
am hoping to do that rally one day.

I'm liking that Velo!
Not in the same league as you lot's bikes, but I dragged my
Honda XBR500 out of hibernation last week, MOT thursday...
Looking forward to getting back out on it.

In the way to Rivvy Barn on Sunday I passed a man sitting in a
ditch by the side of the road taking piccies. On the way home I
stopped for a chat where he gave me his flyer, I then bought the
piccies off his website.
