       That was a Ford cologne v6 engine with a ford auto box on, Lucy.
       There was no hi range 4wd either. It's all been binned now for a
       300tdi but it's not roadworthy at the moment.
       I read an article in LRM about 10 years ago and there was a
       one-armed bloke with an autobox in a 2a which he used for comp
       safari IIRC. Can't remember the engine though. I wonder if it's
       the same chap Jim was on about? He was from Burnley or
       somewhere.

       I've known it done in a 101, 300tdi and auto, that was for a one
       armed bloke. Drove it down to Cape Town so it obviously worked.

       doing at the mo to my 65 2a ambi discgay v8 auto with lt230 not
       realy a hard job ive cut the series g/box x member out using
       disco one drilled chassis got to weld crush tubes in and shorten
       rear prop a bit

       Cable change IIRC (I've not looked really closely yet, I'm still
       taking bits off the outside of the disco at the moment...

       If it's the one armed chap with the distinctive sideburns then
       it was a 2 litre from a Rover car (same block as the Discovery
       MPI). You don't see many of them about, but I'll bet they go
       well in an 88" in speed events.
