       How hot ?

       Hi all
As some of you might know I've been having some problems with
my temperature gauge and I've gone through the whole electrical
side of things and all seems ok but the gauge still rests half
way between the C . Since I've owned Terence I've always thought
to myself that the engine never really gets up to temperature
,I've put new thermostat, sender, and fresh coolant . Yesterday I
went to meet another series owner to buy some bits who is a
Hgv mechanic for the council,he also mentioned that my engine
wasn't hot enough as you can hold your hand on the top hose for
as long as you like, and I can leave it ticking over for hours
and it will not get any hotter. Could it be the thermostat is
buggered even though it's new, even if it's jammed open I would
expect the engine to get hotter than it does .also the engine
never comes of the choke cause it's not getting hot enough ???

I can hold the top hose on mine without any nasty side affects
other than a warm hand. You can test the thermostat in boiling
water to see if it opens and closes.
You could remove the fan and leave it ticking over stood; if the
gauge starts to creep up, take it for a drive and see if the air
movement through the rad drops it again. If, whilst being stood
for ages and the gauge doesn't move, shit yourself and take it
for a spin anyway to cool it down; heater on etc etc.
       :smilewide:
Mine has a muff fitted and the gauge only really gets excited
on a good run and more so when working harder than normal ie. OD
       engaged.
'Fresh' coolant won't make the engine run hotter (it does what
is says on the tin) but obviously is required as
       antifreeze............
Have you got an normal water pump or heavy duty one??

It's in everyday use the thermostat is new and been tested
yesterday it done a 50 mile trip and the heat never rose at all
, it is an ex military 2.25 I don't know if they had different
pumps did they ?i it just seems to only get Luke warm,I might
try blocking off half the grill and see what difference that
       makes

Running up to temp coolant out of the head should. Be about 90c,
would quickly burn if held for long.
This time of year, even with a working thermostat, there is
enough cooling via the bypass to keep it cool
