Chattering?...

Hopefully a simple one :
I get a slight chattering with the engine ticking over , and
then, with the clutch pedal depressed the noise goes; what
is/are the most likely causes?

Clutch release bearing or springs in friction plate ????

Thats exactly what I was thinking; wanted a second opinion and

Primary pinion bearing/layshaft bearings would also so
this...... Constant mesh once the clutch is relaesed, whatever
the gear. If it disappears with the pedal depress, how can it be
the release bearing? They make a noise with pedal pressure....
First call is check your gearbox oil levels, if in doubt, EP120
would do...... cough.

I had jingly-jangly chittery-chattery noises a few years back,
it was two busted clutch plate springs having a service wash
inside the bellendhousing.

i had the springs in the friction plate compress and start this
noise a while back, luckily (?) i also had a gearbox that needed
pulling out at the same time

I'm actually swaying toward Albertross's thinking now. Put my
ear close to the gearbox and it seems to be more that than
clutch;
but on that basis it could be the jack bouncing up and down in
the back - difficult to tell are noises?
