No turn over

I'm at a loss with this one, wonder if anybody could help out.
I was hoping to get the 109 running today however 3 hours later
and I seem to be in the same predicament even though I've done
everything that I can think of.
Basically the engine wont turn over, it's as if there is a flat
battery. Power is getting to it however if it does turn over it
is very slow if at all. Checked, re-checked all the earths,
removed the starter and replaced that with a working one that
seems to work. Still no luck. Swapped battery over still same
symptoms. Re-done earths again, still no luck.
Anybody help me out? Is there something I've done wrong on the
rebuild as I've rebuilt the engine and it's all been apart :-?

Jack one rear wheel up, stick it in gear and see if you can turn
it over by rotating the rear wheel. At least then you'll know if
it is the engine that's tight.

Petrol or Diesel?
If it's a petrol, and not a WET, can you turn it over with a
starting handle?

Robin it's a Diesel of the 2 1/4 variety.
Had a thought and the thought was remove the plugs and see if it
will turn over by hand?

My mk2 escort used to turn over very slow it did start but it
was slow that turned out to be the starter solenoid

Go for it. if it turns by hand ok it has to be starter or
electric. latter can be eliminated by powering starter via jump
leads.

OK removed plugs, can't turn over with starting handle. Any
other pointers before I throw the teddy in the corner?

Oh dear - can't really help, other than my first rebuild when I
were a lad (at 13, many, many moons ago) with no manual, I mixed
up the main bearing caps.
I didn't realise they were matched - that engine wouldn't turn
over either :haha:
I'm hoping you've got a bit more experience than I had and
haven't done the same thing ???
