3.54 diffs in a 109?

Planning on building a 109 with Tdi as a daily driver. Would
obviously like RR diffs but for the Salisbury! It wont be used
for hauling tons of shite, soooo....could I swap rear axle for a
swb type so as to facilitate easy changing of said diffs?? I
did a conversion about ten yrs ago putting RR axles on leafs
under my at the time 109.....dont fancy goin that route again.

You would need to move the spring seats on the axle, as the
springs on a 109 are further apart than on a 88. It's not a
straight swap.

Just use a 11a 109 axle ;D salisbury's were only introduced
on the series 3's
will be a straight swop although you will need a 11a prop shaft
as well

Or look out for a 110 Salisbury diff as that will be 3:54 and
that way keeping the stronger axle

You can fit a 110 Salisbury diff into a series Salisbury axle.
It's been done before. Bigblue did it, even though people said
it couldn't be done, and so did John Eastwood. IIRC.

Yep, I've done three with no problems.
Easy enough as long as you keep everything square when removing
and fitting - it's a bit tight.
There's a write-up from JohnE somewhere on here, showing how to
do it.
I think the only problem is finding a 110 rear axle at a
reasonable price. The three I got were all around £30-£50, but
I've seen them go on ebay for up to £100 :eek:
