Stalybridge Station Pie and Peas
DIR By: Snailer

Having looked at the previous posts the date for the next event
must nearly be upon us. Has a date been chosen for this year,
last was 25th February and I cannot believe a year has already
gone by.

Hmmphhh!
I gave good warning when I was over last. Many volunteered and
all but myself and my pal cried-off. I can only assume second
thoughts had me down as particularly distasteful company.
Still, we necked some ale and spunked some money on an
Oldham-Stalybridge-Ashton-Oldham taxi runaround.

Don't think there was any great conspiracy OR lack of enthusiasm
for your company Drew ...
The fuck up of them performing signal works at the time and none
running of trains etc had more of a impact on the meeting though
.
Sadly the Landlady seems to have retired and the place passed on
to another owner ....though thus far the beer is still most
excellent AND a slight increase in the range of food available
(Though worry not the black peas/pies are still on )
The serving staff seem to all have been replaced with 16 year
old zombies and are less than useless (Unless you have Jimmy
saville like tendancies)
I shall for the good of mankind keep monitoring the situation
over the next few weeks ....
Saturday Stalybridge buffet session anyone ???? :giddy:
:giddy: :giddy:

I bet they're a barrel (no pun intended) of laughs if you go in
on your own and attempt to engage in conversation about the ills
of the world ::)

I gather it is now owned by the same folks who own the West
Riding Refreshment Rooms at Dewsbury station -
www.imissedthetrain.com and also the Sportsman in Huddersfield
(where I was last night!!) and the Cricketers in Horbury. They
do know how to run a good pub, so I reckon it should get
better.....

Agreed Mark, I had read that it had been taken over...
No question the beer was still top notch Especially Wychwoods
"The dog's Bollox" AND despite a re-decoration of the place it
didn't actually look like it had been touched ..so top marks
there.
Not tried the food YET But looks good with a few new items on
the menu along with the regular fare of pie and Black peas.
Some folks "jammin'" in the back room to a decent standard with
plenty of humour to go with it AND most importantly not one
rendition of "The house of fekking R*i, So big thumbs up from me
(And there was an open invite for anyone to bring an instrument
along and join in IF we head down there in a OLLR stylee .
Obviously the door staff will be frisking anyone Named Paul
owning a dog named "Dodo" and professing to be from
H.O.R.V.A./or any of it's splinter groups and confiscating any
instruments of mass torture :smilewide:.
The bar staff however despite being inoffensive on the eye AND
well accomplished at the pulling of a pint ...really do need a
personality transfusion .
