Shock absorbers. Recommendations.

MOT Coming up in a month or so and last time the nice man said
replace the shocks, as quite rightly, they are shot and from a
sky coloured box. I've fitted GB Parabolics since last time so I
reckon extra long (+2 in) are favourite. The only ones I can see
on the usual suspects are the ProComp ES3000, but they seems to
have mixed reviews re the chrome tube on inferior fora.
Any advice folks? Don't want to spend any more than necessary
but don't want BP Nasties either. 88 Diesel NA.
Cheers

i quite like the pro comp 3000s i had them on maggie and they
made a hell of a difference to the shitpart ones i had fitted, i
just sprayed inside the rubber gaiters with wd40 every now and
them and they were fine. i have seen them without the gaiter
fitted to stop the shit getting trapped in them but i just kept
them cleaned out.
i have the 9000s now but haven't driven with them on yet.

I am just changing to GB Spring para's and have been told that
Pro Comp are now a bag of shite - they were excellent when run
by the chappie, and then good whilst run by his family after his
death but are shite now the company has changed hands.
my dads has Monroe gas on his and they seem pretty good but Im
not sure what length is needed - normal, +1 or +2???

I've got procomps on mine. The rears have been on there for
about 7 years now with no problems. The fronts lasted about 5
years before they needed replacing through leaky seals due to
the chrome becoming badly scratched.
The best thing to do with the gaiters is to cut the bottom part
off so they are loose around the body of the damper. That way
the gaiters prevent stuff hitting the chrome but they don't hold
water/mud/silt that scratches it.

^ Good idea.
Procomps seem a bit softer valved that the Monroe's (depends on
your preference).
Currently run Monroe's on the racer and have been impressed so
far. Even normal length ones seem to have about an 3/4 inch of
extra stroke with no increase in compressed length. A subtle
something about the internal piston I assume.

I've got Monroe shocks on the 88" and they have performed well
over the many miles I've done in it... probably been on about 4
or 5 years and only now is the paint just starting to flake in a
few places. Shock absorption is very good, and the motor handles
pretty well! Thumbs up from me from my experience!
