I heard, on the radio news the other day, that trains in the
southwest had been cancelled BEFORE the snow had fallen!
Back in the day, when they had proper engines and when there
were no safety nazis, they just got on with it...

And another thing. - I saw this the other week in Lincs., thats
not the bloody Flying Scotsman, it's bloody crap, thats what it
is.

I saw two beefy snow-plough shunters at Peterborough station,
only last week. Fancied they're the most under-used snow-ploughs
in the history of permanent way clearance, as 21st century snow
is pretty gay stuff. Probably the chippy-run motors.

Wasn't in 1963 that a train got stuck, down in the southwest, as
did the other 2 trains sent to assist and it took 8 weeks of
digging to get them out?

Wouldn't you have loved to be an engineer on any of those trains
- steam or diesel? Even the stoker's job would have flicked a
switch.
