Started to weld the bulkhead up. Bit messy and some heat
distortion...

Freeeee LPG kit and tank. Tank needs changing for one a better
shape/size, but the rest will all be used! It's nice being a
1970s (at a guess) kit, which will not look out of place.

Proper heavy cast bits, and no plastic in sight! Joy of joys!
After a bit of a break, I am back to it and I made a footwell
the other day:

I have also bought another 6 pot for spares. From a fire
applicance, I was told that it had 18k kms on the clock. All
looks good, and everythings there. Some useful spares too,
alternator brackets, oil cooler etc. Not bad for £40 - 88" even
did ust under 44mpg for the 200 mile round trip!

Sadly can't see most of the pics due to them being hosted by the
company-forbidden FB, but even those I can see show a lovely
truck and a lot of work I wouldn't have the balls to do myself -
keep up the good work, I'm sure it will be a stunner! 8)

Possibly one of the most suitable tow car in existance for
taking say a classic car for a spot of historic rallying etc.
Always liked them!

Love it! This is one leafer I'd really like to see when I'm up
in England again. Love what you are doing with it, a real
quality rebuild that takes time instead of a hasty job!

Timescale? Hahahahahaha. I would love to have it finished as
soon as possible, but I have been making very slow progress so
far :(
Phil - and you think that thought has never crossed my mind? ;)
Would be perfect! (aside from the fuel consumption!!)

Mark, it was outside the house of the widow of the original
owner. The vehicle was parked up on the grass opposite her house
since it ran out of tax and test at the end of 1989. Her husband
died and the vehicle sat unused until she moved out in 2007. New
owners tried to get the vehicle moved by contacting the lady
owner, but it got an abandoned vehicle notice thing on it and
was finally towed away. Looooong story, but I managed to save it
just before it was too late! I was told by the owner that if I
could save it from being scrapped, I could have it providing I
could restore it. I paid the fees to get it out of the impound
and to get it recovered to a fellow OLLRer's house who very
kindly let me store it at his place until I had room (I had to
build a garage for it in the meantime!!) - Thanks Yeti Monster!!

Calum,
I do like reading about your Carawagon progress, it's one of my
favourite blogs so to speak.
Stop being a student, and spending all your money or what
little you've got on flash classic motors and get some work done
on the Carawagon ;D

I know, it's regrettably taken a bit of a back seat recently,
but today I got some work done and adapted the footwell I made
(as it didn't fit properly)

Rubbish pic, but you can see that this side is now nearing
completion, with a few welds to finish and a few little patches
still to do. It all needs pulling square as the footwell bottom
is a bit wonky, but it is only really due to the heat
distortion. Amazing how much heavier and how much stiffer the
bulkhead is getting now!
