SURF-ROVER X- IIA 109 FC
By: parksy64 Date: January 17, 2013, 6:50 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Some time ago I bit the bullet and wore down the guy who runs an
old breakers yard near Beziers in S france and did a deal...
Voila; Surf Rover X as I found it:

It was originally owned by Sir Ernest Marples, the then
Transport Secretary, believe to have gone back to the factory
experimental department and was then was converted to a 6
Cylinder engine, ENV axles, and LHD as a demo vehicle and then
exported to France to work with the Fire Service (For fire
fighting in the mountain forests) where it stayed until I found
it (in the town with the lowest rainfall in the country!).
Due to this it is really solid but suffered badly from kids
smashing the windows/ lights.

I then inlisted the "Les Temps Des Series" gang to start a bit
of a shuffle....
When I helped Sebestian the mad Moustachio'd one with the
SHORLAND we did a deal to get my FC back to his for a while
while I am away.
Anyway, J-P one of the gang that came over with Sebastien also
agreed to help and the truck moved half way this w-end....

Sebastien then picked it up and took it to his:

It sat there for a while until I finally did a deal for some FC
wheels/tyres with Sebastien which in part paid for him to drop
it here...

Towed it up the hill on a straight bar and left it next to the

Having not touched it in a while due to other commitments I am
taking advantage of a project being delayed by a plumber and
trying to get it waterproof
All the windows, lights etc were smashed by kids when it was in
the breakers yard.
This morning I have fitted the rear cab windows and have
stripped out all the channels for the 2 door windows and the
windscreen.
I then set to and stripped the spare windscreen that Drew had
sent down ( :giddy: cheers Drew).
Just popping out to pick up some windscreen surround gunk and
should get it all glazed by the end of today >rcker<
Then I just need to batter the shit out of the cab roof to make
it convex and not concave on the top- otherwise it will leak
through the siren bolt holes and the birds will love bathing in
it :2mo5pow:
So far (touch wood :rolleye0012:) every screw has undone- even
on the window channels

Got the windows all in, have a few bits of the strips to put
back in and have to clean up some of the glazing gunk as I
finished in the dark :rolleye0012:
But, I now have a windscreen, fixed door top windows, sliding
door top windows and cab windows. Not a bad days work
considering I had to go out and get the glazing gunk.

Jumping back a bit, here is the FC parked up at home- showing
the gaping windows and faded paint...

Started to clean up the panels with fine wet 'n dry:

This is the only the panel that seems to have been replaced:
HTML http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/428367_463302827052267_1632455315_n.jpg
Think this was probably done when it was changed to LHD as the
RH wheel arch would have been battered side and needed tidying
up.
A bit more:

Checking the electrics; no probs here:
