Well, not much a project, its a work in progress. The chassis
just neeeds wire brushing and painting, the rest of it is
sitting in the garden ready, As bits are transferred, they'll be
renewed if needed. Ive also got a spare engine, (2.1/4 petrol)
which will get a going over before fitting.
Ive got a ragtop on ebay, a roof and sides will be going on
soon, I,m just going to have a bikini top for the summer, and a
truck cab for winter. It'll sit on 750/16's, and apart from a
secure locker in the pick up bed, will stay as is...no bling, no
c/plate, HOPE to finish about May.

iwould do the same cost less than £200 for shot blasting and
galving by the galvenizers so if you find a friendly shot
blaster even cheeper

I would agree PROVIDING the chassis is in GOOD-SOLID un-rusty
order ...
IMHO if it's anything less than the above ...spend your money on
some dinitrol and paint ...Blasting wont touch the insides AND i
am sceptical that chemical dipping/pickling will remove
sufficient of the internal rust to be worthwhile .
Having seen two or three chassis that have been treated thus AND
were bleeding rust stains from welded on patches within months
of them being dipped.

My local galvy place where I am taking the Carawagon stuff said
they don't do chassis anymore, because of the waxoyl/underseal
and shite inside clogging the drain holes. When it goes into the
tank, heat causes the air inside to expand rapidly and BOOM
ridiculously hot zinc, waxoyl and rust flakes go all over the
show. As a result (probably fearing a lawsuit from a possibly
injured employee) they no longer do them (though they said a
bulkhead is fine and they do quite a few of them, which is fine
by me!)

The one in Worksop wont do chassis anymore for that very reason
Calum, but they will do any other bits. But the one in
Chesterfield will still do old chassis.

After seeing the amount of crap in ffragles chassis when I cut
out the outrigger. I would be well dubious of dipping an old
chassis. There was 4inches of mud a crap in the chassis rail.

The above we're the reasons why I haven't dipped mine. Have
restored a couple of chassis now. Both were treated to plenty of
red on the outside and waxoyl in the rails. Despite plenty of
abuse, neither showed any signs of rust after several years, so
this is the method I am employing on the 80 too.
Other problem with galving is tapping and reaming out all the
holes in the chassis for the various fittings and bolts. Reams
to fit chassis and pedal bushes (s1 only) are not easy or cheap
to come by, and are difficult to justify when only being used
once.
When we rechassied Skoze's 80, we had to open up the galved
new/old chassis. The rails were full of zinc coated shit. No
wonder it weighed so much! That put me off getting mine done
there and then!
