LRSOC 65th 'Do'
By: strang Date: January 7, 2013, 1:09 pm

Is anyone thinking of going to the Land Rover Series One club's
65th Anniversary 'do' in Warwick? Last weekend of June - and of
course you have to be a member.
Last time I went to a S1 club event was the 50th at Shugborough
Hall in Stafford.

First one I went to was the Series 2 40th at Langley Farm in
1998 It was just after I got the old girl and I was feeling my
way around. The people I met at the time were great, but I learnt
quick about the barbeques they had. What was the year you got
the Fire engine Mark?.

Aye it might have been John - not sure of the exact date. That
S1 50th event at Shugborough Hall was what got me to join the
'old' Series Two club. I had a choice of a carvery buffet in a
fancy tent with the S1 club, or a bbq sheltered under a rickety
gazeebo in the pouring rain with the S2 club! I opted for the
latter, but that was in the days of the late Lawrence Mitchell
and co.....

Yes it does Kev - although I think I will self cater - rather
than the fancy meals again. It would be good if a few OLLRers
did go if we could camp together.
I seem to remember Luke I think reporting back on the 60th event
that it was like an 'Ifor Williams' trailer fest - all trailer
queens ::)

[/quote] Good old Lawrence he called a spade a spade or even a
lot worse truth be told. You either liked him or hated him
equally .He decided it was time to step down and at the AGM at
Lode Lane he retired handed over the mantel to the next guy I
wont say his name but I used to work with him.Lawrence then
proceeded to have a massive heart attack and die!!.When his
replacement quit he refused to go to the AGM as he didnt want to
top Lawrence.

The 60th was pritty good actully, yes some got trailered in but
most wern't and there were a lot there, including some rather
odd ones that don't normaly do shows, the Turner diesel springs
to mind - worth going just to see that (if its there, its a long
way from Scotland). Off road corse was quite good fun too,
funny how that never gets a mention when people are trying put a
rivit countery spin on LRSOC events.
Havn't planned that far ahead yet but I might well go for it as
the summers LR event now the pits out being on a BH weekend.
Still a little early to tell though as it in part depends what
expeds are happening.
