OD gone tight to engage?

Has anyone any suggestions why this might be so?
Drove north fine, with a gentle one fingered push ;-) to
engage. In the week I was over the border I don't think I used
it , but come the return leg I found I was having to almost
force it in; it got a bit better during the journey but now
since being home and rarely used it is really tight to engage,
in fact I tried and then didn't bother.
To be honest I haven't checked the oil level in it lately as the
times I have I have found there to be too much in it and let
some out and topped up the tranny
instead........................?

mine went tight and hard to get in when the oil level was low,
topped it up and it was fine.

Thanks Hipster,
I'm being lazy in asking the question before I 've checked the
thing over but I'll be glad to find it is low, it might mean
its stopped 'borrowing' oil from the tranny.......

Mine went tight through lack of use, well im guessing thats the
reason.
After blasting up to the christmas do and back its fine now.

Put some oil in it!!
Mine also used to seize up the selector in the housing when it
was overheating, but that was on the back of the V8 (which was
also overheating) and having far too many ponies squeezed
through it, never had the same problem on the TDi. Oil
definitely the answer. ;-)

So you took it to Scotland and it suddenly became tight, :-? I
think this is perfectly normal for most things from Scotland,
you probably also noticed a slight tightening as you passed
through Yorkshire on the way back, should be fine now.

Don't forget that the pivot on the selector likes a drop of oil
too. That sorted mine when it became hard to shift.
