       I had similar on my early series 3 with single circuit brakes,
       so probably similar to yours.
       The pedal needed a pump on first application, then it was fine.
       It was NOT a brake adjustment problem.
       I overhauled the master cylinder as it had a slight leak, and
       that cured it.
       My suspicion (though no proof) was the non return valve was
       acting up and needed the first pump to make it close. That of
       course is part of the overhaul kit so got replaced.
