2.5 N/A Sherpa engine to Land Rover spec

After the drama with injector pipe I had just before Christmas
on Ralph's Sherpa engine (15J) I thought'd it'd be best to check
for other parts available for this engine, but I'm not having
much luck, the main thing being a timing kit seems impossible to
find, so I'm currently thinking of replacing the the timing case
and front cover etc with that off a Land Rover 2.5 N/A engine,
I'm guessing this can be done and that the injector pumps are
the same ones on both engines but one thing I dont know is will
the Land Rover timing case and the Sherpa block have holes etc
in the right place to bolt it all together or not?

A lad at cavendish motors sorted us out with Sherpa timing belt
a couple of years since, or their was someone selling dayco
belts on eBay at not a lot of money, I'll see if I can find them

They seem to fail freqently. I had 3 fail when I had the 14J
engine in mine. I only had the engine in for 18 months! You can
just buy the Land Rover ones and bend them to fit. It's easier
than cocking around rebuilding the engine with the LR timing
case.
If you do fit the LR timing case it will put the injector pump
in the way of the engine mount. So you'll have to cut that off
the chassis and weld it on again. Too much hassle for an old
boat anchor of an engine IMHO.

Dont mind cutting and welding an engine mount, the engine goes
really well and would like to keep it going as well, just dont
know when the belt was last done so its always in the back of my
mind to do the belt

Joe cheers for that mate :thumbs: any idea if the tensioner is
the same as a land rover one or is that different too?

Just done a timing belt change on a sherpa 15j here Lozza, I
also bought the Dayco belt from eBay, The tensioner is the same
as a Landrover one. There is, however another belt idler pully
which I'm led to belive the Landrover engine does not have ???
These are also found new on eBay.

Had to change my belt set on the 15J engine last year due to it
snapping at 6000 miles :banghead, just call Turner Engineering
they sold me a complete timing set inc belt and pullys for £45 +
vat :thumbs:
The belt is different to the Land Rover one by two/three
teeth.......
Yep also had two injector pipes split, not had any go since I
fitted propper pipe supports though...... touching
wood.......... do carry a spare....

I emailed Turners just before Christmas about injector pipes and
they didn't have any and checking their website at the same time
they listed the timing kits but had out of stock next to it,
I'll call them on the off chance they do otherwise I'll take it
they'll have nothing left in stock for the Sherpa engines now
:(

Thats a bit of a bugger then :-? sorry mate thought it was
worth a try, the injector pipes can be made up, as long as they
are all the same length then your on a winner, the bends can be
slightly out just make sure the pipes dont touch. I carry a
straight pipe as a spare now just in case, can bend it with a
spanner or even your hands with a rag.... Nip down your local
injector place they cost around £5-£8 to have made up...
