Nenthead Minez ....

Today after watching the last Bracken fell sausage roll being
'almost' Given away to a Frenchman in Alston's "Moody Baker"
Tracey and I headed orfe underground in the Minez of Nenthead
after a walk with the Houndz ....
Doubly epic for me as after taking my old man in there earlier
in the week (he spent the week up at Mains farm with us ) We
headed back after i had to buy another tripod in Penrith as i'd
forgotten mine Grrrrr !!!!
Nice chat with a old bloke who's Dad had worked in Smallcleugh
years ago ...on the way back down :thumbs: :thumbs:

Think I have maps somewhere of the nenthead levels, and i did
have the route plan of how to get to the ball room, not sure if
that is still possible though?

Twas indeed the site of a fatality Dave ...not sure it was a
school trip though ...I'm sure Redwinch will enlighten us in

It was a school trip. Ian told us the tale on a dark and stormy
night in the pub at Allenheads... :eek:

I really enjoy looking at these fantastic pictures, but reckon I

You would be fine Mark ...we could just paint a helmet on your
shiny pate ...glue a lamp bracket on your forehead and you'd be

Yes you can still visit the ballroom, and waterblast shaft was
the scene of a tragic accident involving an outward bound
course. I installed the angle irons in the 1980,s after the
accident. Definitley worth a visit

Sad accident Ian ....and yes we will Definitely be back for a
return visit onwards to the Ballroom ...Fantastic place AND the
stacked deads/stonework were/are EPIC .
had a cracking chat on the way back down to the landy with a
chap who's Dad worked in the mines as well as his Dad's Dad
