You need to, carefully, drill out the four rivets holding the
twist/lock knob panel in place, and take out said panel. Then
drill out the two rivets holding the bottom channel extrusion in
place, on the inside of the frame, at the bottom, one at the
front, one at the back. Then you need to undo the four screws
along the channel, where the glass runs. You can then carefully
prise the bottom channel out, taking care not to drop the other
pane of glass. The channel is likely to have some dum-dum or
similar under it, so may take a little persuasion. Hopefully a
PO hasn't siliconed it all up, you'll have fun getting it apart
if they have.
With the bottom channel and glass out you can slide the runner
from the broken window off and spend a joyful few minutes
digging the remains of the glass out. You need to try and save
the rubber seal strip, as that is what holds the glass firmly in
place; if it's buggered, you'll need a new one unless you want
to go the silicone route. Wrap the seal over the edge of the
glass and, with the glass held vertical and resting on a block
of wood, tap the runner into place with a mallet. You'll need to
hit it fairly hard, so wear gloves and goggles just in case, but
the chances of breaking the glass are slim.
If the runner isn't tight on the glass then the lock won't work,
which is why the rubber seal is important; if it's chuffed the
lock will lock the runner, but the glass is still free to slide.
Reassembly is a reverse of the above. If the glass used to
rattle in the frame then it might be worth considering replacing
the felt seals whilst it's all apart - if you've time.
HTH, Glen.
