       TET and Ralph
By: lozzaboy Date: December 19, 2012, 9:57 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
hadn't really put much in here lately so thought I'd do a quick
update whilst I'v got some free time. In between going all over
the country with work in November I brought a swb roof and side
panels for Ralph on evilbay just from down the road from Nugget
of this parish who very kindly agreed to pick it up until I
could get down one weekend, so I fired up TET, gave him some
petrol and off we went, got there, loaded up the side panels ( I
will be back for the roof Nugget :smile1) and headed but, until
a couple of miles up the road when TET started to misfire, and
gradually getting worst and worst, managed to get to Motorspares
in Bury st Edmunds (was a about 3pm and Mansfields 4x4 had
closed for the day) so thought I'd try a bit of new fuel line as
the dizzy had new parts only a couple of months previous and
thought it could just be a blockage, all to no avail and ended
       up like this
       [IMG]

Couple of weeks later when I was home again Toby came by to see
what was up, we faffed about checking the dizzy and everything,
and found that I had at some point (possibly before Switzerland
last year!) wired up the coil the wrong way, anyhow everything
checked and TET was up and running perfectly again, bar the
cracked exhaust manifold I'v gotta change next :gay:
Ralph on the other hand has been out and about taking me where
ever I'v been needed, fitted new brakes to him after the horrors
I found before, new drums and shoes on the rear from Allmakes
but once fitted where really tight to start with so just did a
few short local journeys to bed them in and alls good, still
need to do the front brakes and fir the 3.54 diff to match the
one fitted in the rear back in October (I think) He has had a
couple of new parts though, found this when I was having a quick
       look underneath one day

Soon had a new gaiter ordered and the prop removed, cleaned up,
greased and new gaiter on, using the old wire style clips rather
then the jubilee clips that came with it. Ralph also got fitted
with a NOS Unipart waterpump that was found cheap on evilbay
along with a new thermostat housing and series 2 thermostat as
the old thermostat wasnt working and took out not long after I
first got him, but needing some heat from the heater thought
it'd be best to get it done

Been trying to locate a air filter for Ralph too, no idea what
the one fitted is from despite my best efforts to find one I had
a word with our mechanics at work and got a complete 300 Tdi air
filter and housing to put in, just waiting on the bracket that
       the housing clips onto >rcker<

Just need to get hold of some paint and get these sides sorted
out and should hopefully make Ralph look a bit better then the
massive windows that are currently fitted

Also thought I'd try and take advantage of a few frosty mornings
here and took a few arty pics of TET and Ralph

Lol thanks guys but I dont think daliflage will suit Ralph
:smile1 if anything I'v been thinking that if I do repaint the
lower bodywork (the roof and new side panels will be bog
standard limestone/cream/ whatever you call it) I'v been
thinking of either DBG along with keeping the 4 headlight set up

Well todays plan was to nip up in Lincoln to see a mate I use to
work with at Coningsby and have a bit of a catch up and swing by
Joskin's as well, ended up heading to his first as Ralph lost
power just down the road from there, found the pipe to number 1
injector leaking where it connects to the injector, went to nip
it up and the bugger just twisted and broke :smiley-furious:
with it being the 2.5 n/a out of a Sherpa the pipes are totally
different to the proper Land Rover one and so after being driven
about by me mate to try and find one I ended up getting one made
at a injector specialist for £24, where as the Land Rover one
from Rimmer Brothers was £3.50
       Pics tomorrow

Yet again not the best pics as I'm using my phone (and hoping
Santa brings me a new camera :smilewide:) anyhow heres the old
pipe with the broken (injector) end :smiley-furious:

And the shiny newly made one in place, along with how close the
pipes are to each other on this engine, so will hopefully get
some clamps for them all and possibly get the other 3 made up
but with a bit more space in between them

Engine vibration makes them "walk at certain harmonic revs. The
weak bits are where the flares are, so yes, clamps are the order
       of the day.

just emailed Turners Engineering to see if they had any pipes on
the off chance but unfortuntaly they don't so think I will be
looking at getting some more made, along with finding a timing
belt kit (Turners had these listed but no longer available) so
may even look at Land Roverizing it if I cant get a belt kit for
       it

And on that note, something I've been wondering about: would a
Discovery 200 front cover fit and still let you use the CAV
pump? Then you'd not have to bugger about with the engine
       mounts.
