A nice running engine.
Today I have been tinkering with my 80" after giving myself a
off. Anyway I have been working on it and thought of starting it
(a 2.0 ltr petrol engine out of a p4). Started straight away
after a couple of months stood. Anyway there was a blue daze
coming from under the bonnet, so I lift it up and this smoke/
haze is from the breather :banghead I placed my hand over the
breather after removing the top and its sucking and blowing like
a whore. So strip down the head and remove it find two pistons
have serious play and the other two are fine.
So my dilemma is do:
1- I attempt to rebuild the engine/ partial only the cylinders
that are bad
2- Get a decent 2.25 petrol and sit that in and then rebuild the
engine when I can afford too
3- Wait for a Perkins Prima and convert it.
All advice much appreciated.

Having rebuilt a 2.0L petrol myself, I know that the parts are
much more expensive than for a 2.25.
If I was faced with your predicament, I'd put a 2.25 in - but
bear in mind that it isn't just a case of 'drop it in'. I
believe you need to make changes to the clutch operating
mechanism and throttle linkage. I've heard that the 2.25 is
taller too, so you either need a power bulge in the bonnet over
the carb, or raise the whole bonnet half an inch, or manufacture
a lower profile connection for the air intake pipe into the top
of the carb.
You may also need a different clutch. I'm sure if you need more
accurate details of what the conversion entails, someone else
here can probably enlighten you.
Nevertheless, I'd still go down the conversion route if I was in
your situation.

Where can rebuild kits/ parts be sourced for a rebuild. Pistons,
rings, liners and bearings?

Cox & Turner will have all you need plus all the things you have
forgotten you need. As an extra ,what Ian at the Tintinhul
workshop doesn't know about rebuilding these engines is not
worth knowing and he is always pleased to help.
