After getting gearbox reconned from.my 2a. Any recommendations?

Ashcrofts or Whithouse engineering
You can get a recon from about £200 to about £1000, that says
all that needs to be said about quality of some recons

I don't whether you'd go to him but Mark Barnes from Pennine did
a cracking job on that oddball R380 that's in one of mine. Not
sure how much he charges though.

I got a Whitehouse box for the 2a about 10 years ago. It's still
working however it seemed to have more internal 'slack' than the
box it replaced and the syncro hub on 3rd isn't great. When I
bought it they did mention poor quality parts were a problem as
a lot of genuine was NLA. I'd track down what you can genuine
then take it to a reputable company to rebuild it or have a go
yourself. Someone told me Ashcrofts use Whitehouse to supply
their series boxes, not sure how true that is though.

Whitehouse are definately doing Ashcroft's boxes. In fact I
rang Ashcroft the other day and they said ring Whitehouse
direct.
They aren't bothered by series boxes at all.
Whitehouse where in the 800s + vat....
Just ordered all the bits for mine :smilewide:
