Re: Les series en Helvetie / 3th Swiss series Meeting

If anyone is interested, I'm thinking of organising a couple of
days out while we're over there...
On the Thursday (11th July) I was thinking of driving to
Grindelwald railway station (near Interlaken) to take the train
up to the top of the world - Jungfraujoch. It was featured on
the "Great Railway Journeys" programme on the BBC recently, and
is a rack and pinion train up the inside (and outside) of a
mountain up to the world's highest train station, which sits in
the pass between the Eiger and the Jungfrau mountains. At the
top there is an Observatory and other stuff to look at. It's not
cheap, a return ticket looks to be costing around £90 - £125 per
person, but does offer some pretty amazing views. There is an
option to get off the train halfway back down and hike part or
the rest of the way, which would take you in front of the Eiger
face and glacier and past some impressive waterfalls. The hike
is supposed to take 2-3 hours depending on which route you take
and if you get back on the train at any point or just walk all
the way down to Grindelwald.
Google Jungfrau railway, train station and observatory for some
ideas of what's there and the sort of inside a mountain railway
we're talking about. You can get the train from Interlaken but
it costs a bit more and I think the drive from Interlaken to
Grindelwald would probably be quite fun anyway.
Also on the Monday (15th July) I'm hoping to go to CERN in
Geneva to geek out for a day - they do guided tours (in English)
for free at 10:30 that take 2-3 hours and there's an interactive
exhibition/display thing to look at as well. There are no tours
of the LHC itself as it is now operational so dangerous to
humans, but there's still plenty to see and look at etc.
Thinking about camping in or near Geneva on the Monday night
too.
I'm happy to do some organising for either of these for a group
of us if anybody is interested, let me know. :)

Hello again, Yves has asked me to post the questions that I sent
him about the inscription form by email.
I basically asked him about the insurance number question. To
which the reply was - this is your normal UK insurance policy
number. (I presume a green card is not needed due to the
countries being visited as long as your insurance states that
you are covered).
I also asked about payment and sending the form back. - an email
will not be sufficient he needs the signed form with card
details although you can email him your security number later
for piece of mind.
Hope this clears a few things up as it did for me.

Sent my form off yesterday. Discussed with Yves (via email) the
security issue of sending all the credit card details on the
form and we/he agreed no problem to send some of the details
(such as the 3 digit number of the back) separately via email -
so long as you make sure the names line up on the form/email!!
This is what I have done - will update you once I get some
notification back fro Yves (of my CC company!) re payment.
Roll on Opheers and then the convoy down to Switzerland

Last time I went I took the risk of sending cash in Swiss Francs
- Yves got it OK and everything was great. Its a gamble, but it
worked.

I hope to be there - not sure what Series to take...
You do need a valid Greencard as proof of insurance on the
Continent. As you need the original logbook (V5c), MOT cert. And
obviously a passport or EU ID card. If the logbook is not in
your name, you need a letter stating you can use the vehicle
abroad by the registered owner.
Please make sure you have them with you - no fun being stranded
in a French / Belgium police station.

I sent my money for the last Swiss do by Western Union money
transfer, it cost me £6.90. Western Union agents are plentiful,
the one I used was my local Thomson Travel shop.
