I prefer to get a ferry from Hull to either Rotterdam or
Zeebrugge - although this adds to the cost as its not the
cheapest route, and its sort of peak time of year for travel
too. No plans afoot just yet, we really need to know when the
application forms are available, as the first hurdle is getting
the money to Yves!

Does anyone know how long roughly it takes to get back from Yves
do to a channel ferry crossing? What is the norm, would you
normally try to do the journey in a day or is that too much for
one of our Landies? I would imagine 2/3 days would be the norm?
I am just trying to work out how much time is needed for work
holidays taking into account going to Opheers as well.

Well it's 460-490 miles to Calais or Dunkirk (fastest UK ferries
and Chunnel), around 430 to Le Havre and around 460 to
Zeebrugge.
I and a few others have done 450 miles through France in one hit
a few times now in leafers and you sure know you've done it.
Do-able, though much easier over a couple of days. I seem to
think we took 2 1/2 days to get back from Yves' do last time but
we did go via Sebastian's place.
Some of the chaps when we went a couple of years ago went from
the Alps via Germany to Dunkirk (I think) in one big hit but
they looked like this on the ferry home rofl

Sebastian's to the ring then Dunkirk not quite as epic as from
the alps. But still almost 500 miles. ideally in a series I
wouldn't look at doing over 400 miles in a day when your average
speed is rarely above 50mph anywhere takes a while

For my route on the last trip I sailed into Zeebrugge, and it
was then my intention to catch up with those who had been at
Carls event, however, they set off before I docked, and it
wasn't until I got to the first campsite that I caught up with
them.
The first campsite we stayed at was in Dahn, Germany -
www.camping-buettelwoog.de/
This was quite a long haul from the port, and I was glad of a
cold beer on arrival!
We then visited a monastry the following day (OLLR do culture
too!) and this meant it was only a short trip to the next
campsite in the Black Forest -
www.camping-alpirsbach.de/Default1GB.html
After this our group split up, and S.O.T.D, Verner109 and me
headed off to Switzerland, crossing via Zurich. We were planning
to camp near Zug, but managed to get to Altdorf, and camped here
-
www.eurocampings.co.uk/en/europe/switzerland/swiss-plateau/camps
ite-altdorf-107144/
After staying here, we set off earlyish, and got all the way
across Switzerland (crossing the Susten Pass) going via
Interlaken and Thun and ended up in Bierre (where the event is)
for about 16:00 ish
Returning we all left en masse and took about a day (normal OLLR
travelling speeds and stops etc) to get to Sebastiens in the
Champagne region of France, but I can't remember what the town
is called.
The following day I set off alone to head back to Belgium and
Zeebrugge, catching the ferry home in plenty of time.
I have all the distances written down somewhere - but I just
can't lay my hands on them at the moment.
For this year, I fancy trying a different Swiss pass and route,
which may mean camping of a few different sites to those I have
listed.
It was a stonking trip!
