200tdi service

Hi. I got my 200tdi inside and on the bench. It's been sat
outside for 6 months and the guy who had it before had not run
it in the couple of years he had it in his shed.
Anyway, I got it on the bench turned it over by hand a few times
then attached some wires and fuel and it fired up first time.
So, the question is.. Are there any jobs you would recommend
doing to it before I fit it in my lightweight?

Aprt from oil and filters, I would go for cam belt and possibly,
tensioner.
Core plugs might be an easy "do" while engine is out - dependant
on condition.

Check if the rear crank oil seal is leaking, they do and it is a
barsteward of a job to do later once the engine is in, if you
decide to replace it get a good seal kit not a cheapo one,
As alex said cam belt and have a very good look at the
tensioners and check for any other leaks.
My mate has just preped 2 TDi s and he went as far as removing
the sump and checking the bearing shells for wear, he replaced
the big end shells on one, depends how far you want to go,
inspecting it costs you time and seals and gaskets but could
potentially save you more.

Cheers! I'm planning of putting it in in February/march so got
some time to get stuff done. I think I'm going to take it to a
mate of my father in law who services landys so will probably
get all of the above done!

Timing gear (belt/tensioners) are a must, regardless of how well
it sounds on the bench or how well a PO said it ran. You don't
know the last interval change, so start a'fresh.
You'll fit it and the belt will go...cert!
