TDI Temperature

Already had a bit of a discussion on this but noticed a few
things. Temp on my tdi'd 2a is always low....never out of the
white. checked the themostat and all ok. it has a disco radiator
but no fan. Now the other day pulling a tonne or so the temp
ended up somewhere near normal...about a third of the way into
the normal section and the heater was toasty instead of just
warmish. Now does anyone have any experience of the tdi and its
temerature range in an 88inch? do you think its running cool or
is the temp gauge wrong? temp with the trailer on seemed far
better as heater was ace!

In the defender it runs cold, with the parents TDi SW, it wont
get over the bottom of the white bit unless its working hard
TDI's do run quite cool, even a 2.25 petrol will struggle to get
to temp when its close to 0 C outside
WOrth checking with a thermometer as there are sender/gauge
comparability issues

How did you check the thermostat?
I've seen an old Tdi thermostat that opened and closed just
fine, but at far too low temperature.
For the cost of a thermostat, I'd renew it.

i run my 109 tdi 2a without a fan (not fitted one yet) and i've
had no heat worries to date even when laning on the hottest
weekend of this year
i reasonably regularly tow a ton or more behind it without
worrying, i've no temperature guage to check it with so all i do
is reach across to feel the temperature the old smiths heater is
releasing, 110 miles last week dragging an escort home on my
dolly from south wales at 50-55mph and it was still very cool in
the cab (van bodied) only opened the window to chuck fag ash out
had the temperature guage in my bitsa rise a little higher than
i was happy with the once but i was towing in excess of two tons
up Hatton Hill whilst in third gear on a warm day, i do have an
electric fan in that one but rarely use it, thirty seconds of
the fan whirring away and the temperature plummetted again
i really don't feel there is any need to panic about 200tdi's
overheating as long as the thermostat works and the radiator is
in good condition, i use an 82 degree thermostat in both of mine
