Well folks, we're at portsmouth boarding the ferry. Score so
far: DaveH - 1 alternator bracket. Phil - 1 tyre. Vinny - 1
tyre. Chris - loose drive flange. Rob & Mick - 0 (gays!).
We'll post more later.

He left my house yesterday, along with Mathieu and his dad Vim.
He's sailing from Le Havre to Portsmouth on Thursday, and
reportedly staying with a New Forest-based recent new member to
the forum on Thursday night. (No names, no pack-drill.)
That should get him back into Yorkshire by Friday, Strang.

Spoke this evening to Phil.
He and the Morocco crew are currently at Barcelona, having spent
two nights enjoying the kind hospitality of Landyman &
Landylady, who are staunch members of the French Series club
which hosted the Bannegon event.
They've done a good deal of laning and just generally chilled
and shot the breeze in the Aveyron departement.
They tooled over the Millau Viaduct this morning, and made
capital progress to Barcelona, where they'll likely as not
tonight, eat Tapas, get Cerveza'd-up and proceed to get a
truncheon run from Brit-hating Dago Plod.
I think this is where the progress reports end, because they'll
probably be in Morocco by tomorrow or Friday, and I'm fucked if
I'm running a phone bill up calling a North African based
mobile. Mates or not!

Now on the South Coast of Spain, dipping our toes in the med
after a 400 plus mile day. Off to Gib and Algeceras tomorrow and
crossing to Africa on Sat.

Bollocks. I've been working in Gib for the last eight weeks and
you have been here????
I never saw a Series convoy - or did you walk across? Truly
gutted.
If anyone comes back to Gib on the return trip I can email my
phone no to someone. Plus if you do have any problems I'm
probably the nearest forum member between Gibraltar and the
French border.

Just had a call from Phil.
They're on their way back. Had a capital time, with no major
hiccups other than an overestimation of just how far down
towards the Sahara they'd get in the time available.
They've seen a lot, done a lot, and Vinny, Rob and Stig are
taking the Santander-Portsmouth ferry back tomorrow, with Phil
and Chris running up the long route.
Hope to be back in Buxton by Friday.
Salute to the OLLR Expedition!

And I was expecting a scene like something out of Flight of the
Phoenix where they build one Landy out of bits of the four to
get out of the desert.
Phil would be the German designer bloke and they'd think he
actually designed Land Rovers but it would turn out that he's
only ever built an airfix kit of one...
Or that they end up stuck hundreds of miles from civilisation
and on the point of starvation decide to eat one another. I was
betting that Vinny got eaten first as he's the youngest.
That ship could sink yet. Anyone remember the Poseidon
Adventure?

We Have Returned!!!. Rob,Vinny & myself got the Tuesday morning
boat from Bilbao & arrived in Portsmouth wednesday 1730. Rob & I
(two Bin Laden lookalikes!) drove straight through Customs & out
of the docks. We thought Vinny was in front of us & set off
along the M27 at warp factor 3 to catch him up....... One and a
half hours later we got a call from the Vinster (Mr. Clean)
saying he had been turned over by Customs (including having his
tyres X-rayed!) and was just leaving Portsmouth.(must have been
all the patches on the inner tubes that made them suspicious!)
Hopefully he is now home safe and well.

Thoroughly pleased you made the trip in fine order, Mike, and
was greatly happy to have met you at Bannegon.
On a connected note, Chris and Helen swung by our place last
night, and brought the music of their V8 with what would seem to
be a straight-through exhaust to our sleepy corner of France.
Save for a couple of very minor and not unrepairable
tech-hiccups, they're in capital trim, and after a meal last
night, boulangerie morning goods this morning, and four duck
eggs from our own birds in their food locker, they roared away
just after lunch and are making steam for Dieppe, and a week-end
crossing.
The whole Bannegon/Morocco thing has been a pretty good affair
for the forum, IMHO, and has generated the kind of either
focussed or passing interest which ought to convince the
adventurous but nervy types that a mass attack on Bannegon next
year is well possible, and may well encourage them to join in.
In accordance with an earlier posting, I'd like to state how I'm
going to start the organization ball rolling in the New Year, so
watch this space.

Yes by a miracle of mobile telephony I met up with Phil and the
crew. I intercepted them 6000 feet up in the High Atlas
mountains about an hour and a half out of Marrakech and escorted
them down onto the plain to my place for a cuppa. We then went
out to the campsite and set up the tents with the intention of
meeting up in the evening at the Square of the Dead for some
scoff but it was the last day of Ramadan and the mobile phone
network became overloaded and crashed. However I met up with
them in the morning before they headed off for Tangier and the
crossing over to Spain followed by the long 1500 mile haul to
Calais - where they should be about now.
Mechanical problems have been few, some punctures caused by
labels left on the inner tubes on the 6 potter and a reluctance
of the gassed and bored out 2 and a quarter to run on petrol.
10/10 for effort, especially as 3 out of the 4 vehicles were
running on petrol - diesel is much cheaper here and throughout
Europe. Phil already has plans for bringing out a vehicle here
and leaving it cos there's so much off road potential. I'm
installed here now running the operations side of
Mountain-Voyage, I'm sure you've looked at the web-sites by now

We made it home about lunchtime today, caught the midnight ferry
last night from Dieppe and met up with Helens parents for a
pre-dawn coffee this morning.
The trucks a little worse for wear, but nothing that can't be
remedied with a bit of TLC.

Bonjour mon chums Anglais!
Je suis arrive en Angleterre!!
Arrived in portsmouth last night to much waving of flags and
fanfare (you shouldn't have goine to so much trouble). Apart
from an unplesant rubber glove incident in Portsmouth (They were
my gloves - I don't see why I had to take them off and it didn't
take too long to round up the nuns and get them back on the
coach!) the journey has been good.
Got back up from Algeceras (1727 miles) in 3 days mega driving
but stopped off to see freinds and family on the way.
Landy had almost no problems except overheating one day, due to
shit in the rad cap seal, and a vibration on the way home that
had me worried - that turned out to be the front prop sliding
joint that had become full of grinding paste and now resides in
a bin at an Aire in France.
I would further like to point out that Myself, Chris & Helen
were the only ones to complete the entire trip by road.
Therefore, The Prof, Rob and Stig et les Gayeurs!!
Got to sort through over 1000 photos now and I'll post some
tasters later.

Bloody brilliant photos still!!
Is there any chance that some of you lads and lasses could put
an article together for some of the LR magazines, because I am
sure most of the readership are convinced the only way to get to
Africa is to spend tens of thousands of pounds on a new
Defender110, then have it prepared by Nene Overland, and at the
very least, have one of those fancy roof tents - which I noticed
you all managed without!
Looking forwards to seeing more pictures....

How did the rag top fare with little pikey fingers. I'm
planning taking my gs 101, but I'm worried about security.
Could you leave it and say go for a meal with out worrying all
your gear would go for a walk.

easy, dont think we ever left the Landy alone :D Think we left
them once for that market we went around, but we stayed out of
Towns, Cities, Villages. Stayed on the road (off road most
time).

I would love to go again Ruud, in fact Lucy mentioned at LATP
about making another trip and that Dougal would enjoy it.
Unfortunately I hit pension age in May and from then on I'm
going to have to watch the pennies. Having said that, I'm
determined to keep going as long as I can, provided that I can
find passengers to split the cost. It's Euroleaf or Afroleaf
(thanks Jan!) or die! ;D
