1960s Traction Engine Pictures

Here are some old family slides that my dad has scanned in, of
my great uncles traction engine, some from engine rallies in the
late 60s, a steam fire engine that my Grandfather restored at
his work, and him with his Hot Air Engines.

..... The young chap driving the engine is my Dad, and that is
me in the silly hat!

Superb! I am guessing you are related to Eastwoods?
The Burrell looks a bit different now, I remember going to the
sale at Bodiam and thinking it looked great as it was.
Believe the green Fowler "Jess" is in the middle of a pretty
through rebuild and lives in the same village as the Harding's
old Marshall "Daphne Ann" that's in the picture threshing and
with the chap cleaning the wheel.
The dinky Fowler roller was Barry Metcalf's, a guy called
Jerry/Gerry Parsons had it the last I heard.

Jess's daughter married my mums brother, Jess is with my dad in
the 3rd picture, and I think that is him just visible behind my
dad, in the groovy yellow jumper in the 4th picture - just spoke
with my mum and she does not know why the engine was called
'Jess' - Jess worked with my grandfather in the NFS/Fire Brigade
I believe ?

Ah - Jess Swatland (?) Can't recall the exact spelling so
apologies.
I believe Don Eastwood named the engine after Jess, as he had
taken it on himself to do all the work on it.
When Alan Stiller bought the engine from Don and got her going
again Jess went and had a few drives, I can remember meeting him
at Tinkers Park rally - 1993 or so.
Somewhere at home I might even have some pictures, I will have a
look later if I get a chance. :)
I found this on Flickr, must be mid to late 90s.

Yes that is the surname, or something like, will have to check
up with my folks for the correct spelling - here is a better
picture of Jess, with his pipe -

.... with my Dad, sister and myself probably aged about 4 of 5
which would make it about 1968?' Or there abouts.
