The relay flasher is a small black box with two or three
terminals, inside is a wire wrapped around a metal strip. When
current passes though it it gets hot and the matal strip bends
and opens the circuit, breaking the current flow. The strip
cools and straightens reconnecting the circuit and the whole
process starts again.
The speed that this happens gives you the flash rate, more bulbs
in the circuit, lower current draw, slower flash, less or failed
bulbs, more current faster flash.
First thing to check is the bulb holders, any rust will cause
problems, then check all the earths wires and this should sort
it.
If everything looks ok then think about the flasher.
My money is on bad earth somewhere.

not sure if its because something is badly wired or if its due
to a different flasher unit ( 81 s3 ) but if i lose a bulb the
flash rate slows down. However giving the engine some beans (
spinning the alternator up to give a higher voltage in the
system) the blink speed increases
if on tick over with a bulb out it really struggles to get a
flash at all... it will just stay on ( hence why they PO has
fitted extra repeaters i think looking at its MOT history )

Hi Chris
My money would be on a crook earth.
Run a length of wire from the earth terminal on the battery to
each indicator bulb holder in turn.
If you find one that makes a difference that is good place to
start checking the earth.
Hope this helps
Cheers

As above, check the earths, if this doesn't work fit some higher
wattage bulbs...
