There was a thread somewhere about the best halogen headlights
for a leafer...
With an unserviceable headlight I went to my local Land Rover
parts emporium to purchase a sealed beam unit only to be told
that they are now made of unobtainium. I sincerely doubted this
but it was academic as the proprietor didn't have any and so
that was that...
I did ask what the boingers use - if they don't make sealed beam
lights anymore then what do they put in D*fenders? "Halogens" he
said!
So I bought a halogen headlight that had been prised from the
carcass of a deceased boinger - £5 inc. bulb!
Now that's the best sort of halogen conversion. ;D

Until MOT time when it SHOULD fail for the lamps not being a
matched pair..... One checked on dip, the other on main beam.
HaHa! :haha:

I knew that sealed beams were "illegal / not wanted" in France,
but didn't know they had stopped making them / selling them.
Why?

Yeah - last MOT for me and I needed a sealed beam - luckily a
kind forum member had given me a spare sealed beam unit he had,
but come the actual test, and the other sealed beam unit on the
Land Rover had packed up too! So I had to do a quick conversion
to halogen too, otherwise no MOT. I just wonder if the wiring
loom is up to handling halogens, or doesn't it make any
difference?
PS - I have a spare sealed beam unit if anyone needs one, or
Adam R - would you like it back?

It does seem the sealed beams are now unobtainable, apart from
at "rivet counter" prices.
Both Bitsa and Nog now wear cheap halogens £8 each new IIRC.
Bitsa has relay switching, and seems twice as bright as NOG.
They are pretty good IMHO - I've been driving a few newish
motors recently for folks, and had to drop my after dark crusing
speed cos I can't see a thing...

so this means its time to make some money now they are rare £50
each any body as ive got some that came out my S3 my S1 and a
boingy must have 6 pairs here, might have to put on eblag then

I to am confused as to how they are so hard to find,
My local motor factors can get one delivered to the door within
1/2 hr,

Yup, I'm down to my last (s/h) spare for my Rover P6 - and it
takes 4 of them. When listed, new ones are about 25 quid each
for the 5 1/4 inchers like these.
Mind you, I've seen Lotus Elan headlights listed on eBay for 70
quid each - and they're identical to LR ones!

I got the new light fitted today and drove back from Partington,
through Hull and on the A63/M62. The lights are still crap when
compared to new cars. Some of them have really bright lights
that have a blue tinge. In fact the type of lights that I mean
make the lights on my van look dim.
Are these just superbright bulbs or what? I want some of those
bulbs if they are!
